wide point of board dictates surfing stye?

it says that when the wide point of a board is ahead of your front foot than you better suited to be a front footed surfer, while back footers have sharper turns. is this also true with a sup because with the length of stand ups when you get to the tail while on a wave, the wide point will almost always be either on or in front of your front foot. so would this cause us all to be front footed surfers or does it just pertain to prone surfers will shorter narrower boards?
