Folks,  What's the experience been with checking a 10' x 31"  SUP onto United Airlines from Maui to the mainland?  Do you pad your board inside the bag?  I have a StandupZone bag, is this enough padding?    Will United allow me to take check such a large board?  If yes, any idea if there is an extra fee ontop of the the surfboard rate?  Thanks too all.

I checked my 8'8" couple months ago but just interisland. They charged the standard $25 surfboard rate. It was in a 10'6" bag so kinda big too. I definitely padded the board, wrapped it bubble wrap. I've seen how they treat luggage. No sense taking a chance.

Just back from Kauai with my 10'C-4.
Double bagged and foam blocks on nose and tail.
Traveled with one checked bag and my stand Up board.
No dings or dents from United.

United at LAX charged me $80.00 from LAX-Lihue-stoked!

Then United at the airport in Kauai charged me $170 to bring the board home from Lihue-LAX
Where's the Aloha?

Board made it to Nor Cal with possibly just a small spider, nothing more.   We wrapped it in two packing blankets after cardboard along the rails.   Then bagged it in the StandupZone bag.  $200 from our friends UAL at the Maui desk, ouch.    Kazuma exported to Cali, just ordered a replacement!
