There is a full moon paddle here on the EC on the 16th (Seaside Park, NJ).  Check out Jersey Shore SUP Meetup for details.

I'm going to be sorry because it looks like I'll have to miss it.

Is this really legal?

Probably not a big deal on a small lake or pond. But I can just see it ending badly on a busy lake in most any state in the country.

Legal Schmegal! (sorry Tim)
Probably not-being out in the pacific in SOcal at midnight is probably frowned upon by the Man!
Probably depends where you launch from-state lifeguards would definitely not like it-County-so-so-city lifeguards-would be out with you.
This coming full will probably not work out-marine layer!-Dangit!

Yes it is, you just need a pfd, whistle and a flashlight.   ;D

But seriously, you do stay away from shipping lanes and busy boat channels.

No offense to Southbay but I am starting to get worried about SoCalSUpper when he starts to get fired up about a sizzling or magical  "Full Moon" paddle session from strangers. If he starts talking about how "warm" the session will be and how he will "skin" it, I will have no choice but to formally protest the full moon magic fest...

We spend a few weeks in Lake Tahoe every summer. Last year, on a full moon, I thought about going for a paddle on the lake. When I hear a bear walking though the campsite, I thought Bail! I'm not walking through the forest with that thing lurking. At SanO we got Fluffy the Great White, and Tahoe it's Yogi the Bear. Their harmless. Right? I don't think the pfd, or the whistle will help in either case.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

SoCal--based on what I've heard about your area, there are probably quite a few surfers there who'll think if you guys can do one nighttime SUP surfing session, why can't you do all of them then?

SoCalSupper

good point mike!-if there was swell and enough light it would be something i would do more of-one of my favorite all time sessions was Trestles one night with my oldest son-16 at the time-Bioluminesscence in the water-creepy-spooky-so fun-have not done a night sup sesh yet and really want to.
With my luck i will still run into grumpy old longboard guy!

There was a midnight moonlight paddle here after the Gorge Performance luau last summer--really beautiful time to paddle.  The highlight was when we woke up a couple hundred Canadian Geese, who fortunately flew away from us instead of over us--probably woke up everyone in the houseboats, though.

Speaking of moonlight paddling--the ''Sweep'n'Peep" moonlight paddle tours of houseboat communities in the Northwest that I mentioned in the other thread--I had to close the entries off even though I haven't even begun to plan it.  I already got 142 private messages from people who want in.  Unbelievable how many people who do standup who are named Tom--over half the people who emailed me.
