In the course of drawing and painting surfing and waves I always tend to lean towards pushing the painting to almost the un-imaginary. I was hoping to just put together a simple stand up paddle painting. As usual I went (overboard) and came up with this crazy guy paddling into an impossible situation. Acrylic paint on a 22.5''x15'' 400lb. Arches watercolor paper. Thoughts?

I always paddle out at The Jetty and check Croatan but end up just north of the pack. It gets crowded all along there but I've been there for a long time so no problems except one in the last 4 years. No more problem. You?

Beautiful! Looks like he has a chance to make that wave.

Sandbridge the majority of time.  The jetty area looks a little too crowded for my taste, plus way too many short boarders.  Actually, I have not surfed the jetty in problay 13 years.  I usually just paddle around the Sandbridge area until some sets come through to surf on.  I missed the swell we had this week; but heard it was pretty fun.

Looks like you painted over a photo I saw of Ekolu at Waimea.

Thoughts?  It's bad ass.  And since no one else has.  If it's for sale,

I call "dibs"

What say you?

Wow--most people have a hard enough time going out there with a camera.

Seriously, nice job, surfpainter.

I like it.  The red background makes me feel like it's an end-of-the-world wave cuz I grew up when there was alot of fear about A-bombs.  All the kids my age would fantasize about that last wave. The guy is looking right into the throat not pasted into the hook like many surf artists do around here.  The guy is on the edge... literally and figuratively.  Powerful stroke lines moving the wave forward.  Very cool and intense.

I was thinking the caption should read, "Go ahead and eat without me honey, I'm going to be a little late".

Make it hopeful... I "might" be a little late...
