Bring your buddies. We want to see you spoiled southern dudes paddling with icicles hanging out of your ears and feel how we paddle up here.

I have to disagree with dalidali.  I'm a northern paddler and I am hoping for some warm and beautiful southern weather.  I for one have already had enough of winter....

That was meanto be a joke. In fact, I hope that those Florida dudes bring us some warm, sunny weather.

Only one week away and looks like it is going to be a good turnout.  Forecast calling for partly cloudy skies in the lower 50's, which is a heatwave compared to last year!

Just got back from Florida and it was freezing, but got word from Dan Gavere that Nikki Gregg will be racing, as a bunch of people have asked.

If you plan to race and have not registered please register before Saturday: www.coldstrokeclassic.com and remember to bring your PFD.

We look forward to an action packed day of racing and fun.

Not sure about anyone else; its a bunch of the pros backyard.  We will have a bunch of extra PFDs for those that forget to bring one that you can borrow.

Ice on the pond outside today and calling for snow tomorrow, but supposed to warm up at the end of week, still calling for 50's!

All the best,

Jeoffrey

- what to watch for
- tide
- currents
- wind
- changes in depth
- size of chop/waves
-etc

Weather: Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 50s. Lows in the lower 30s...except in the upper 30s at the beaches. West winds 5 to 10 mph.
Water Temperature: 43 degrees
Tide: Low tide is at 9:43AM, which means by race time it will be pouring in.
Currents: Yes. There are channels. If you know how to read water, it will come in handy
What to watch for: sand bars along the north side and the northeast corner. Boat traffic under the drawbridge, overzealous chase boats with nice drivers who have gotten in the way in the past events and figuring out when faster currents trump shorter distances. Find the right line.
Size of chop: minimal. There will be some chop on the south side as the wind and current will be against each other.
Changes in depth: It is relatively shallow throughout. The lower tides will mean some more shallow spots, but these things rarely start on time and by the second lap, there'll be plenty of water under there.
Mandatories: Booties. It might be warm, but the water is dang cold. I put wool socks under my booties. Second, it's 7 miles, so some type of hydration. Especially if you're wearing some rubber. You sweat more than you think. Third, it's a fun event, so exepct to have a good time. It's so cold everywhere. We're goign to get the first good weather day in the history of Jeoffrey's races. It is going to be a watershed day.
Final note: only 4 of last years mens top 15 will be there and only 1 of the top 3 women. Should be interesting.
Nothing heals like water time

Looks like we are in for some good times; for all that have asked we are up to just about 100 racers registered as of this morning 1/14!

Yeah,
great race, we made friends and look forward to coming back. The Blockade Runner is a classy place with friendly staff. The course is fun. Learned a lot from veteran competitors like Dan and Chris who gave of tons of useful advice
Thanks Jeoffrey , Dan and Chris

Great showing by the Toronto crew of 4:

Larry won the Men's Elite 12'6" division.
Derek came 2nd in the Men's Elite 14' division.
Andy came 3rd in the Recreational Men's 12'6" division.
Mike won the Men's Recreational Unlimited division.

This was the first SUP race for a number of these guys and the first year of SUP paddling for Larry, Derek, and Andy!
