River SUP.. using a windsurf board ??
« on: August 10, 2010, 12:55:39 PM »
I want to try SUP .. I will be using this board only on a calm lake.

I found a used windsurf for 35$ ... so this might be worth the try.

I found a BIC  Metal Rock .. 9 feet 8 inches long.   125 L
I'm 165 pounds

Could this do to give it a try ?

thanks for the info and help

That's pretty short for your first SUP.  Check the width.  Anything under 28" and I would stay clear.  You'll be very frustrated very quickly.  Other then that, have fun.  You'll get hooked quick.

For flat water that will be very small.
The volume is just not there to hold you up.

If the river you are speaking of is a standing wave / surf situation - then it might be okay - still pretty small.

At about 10' x 26" it's going to be hard work for anyone that's not a flyweight.. and even for flyweight it would have to be pretty calm water.

I had one of those big old one-design windsurf boards that was about 11' x 29" and it worked great.

thanks for the reply.   So ideally I would be searching for something 11 x 29 or so in terms of size.   Anything else I should be looking for ?

The river is very calm .. no waves or standing wave to surf.  Just mellow with a nice empty island to go relax on.

Thanks again
