Anybody try the Infinity Racer in Aviso Technology?
« on: August 06, 2010, 12:45:59 PM »
I've tried an older Infinity and it didn't seem exceptional.  Anybody try the new one?  At 14 pounds and stock size it seems pretty intriguing.  Especially since I'm too big and balance challenged for the new narrow tipy stock sized racers.

77 views and nobody?  There's one at Paddlesurf Warehouse to demo if someone in OC wants to try it out.

I saw it at the oceanside race two weekends ago. someone ran into it and it had a whole in it.  i also went to paddlesurf wharehouse in Dana Pont and the mgr said they are still working out the kinks but it must have got hit hard to put a hole in it.  he also said aviso might come out with a model that is more stable then the infinity's present shape. there is also a demo of boards next wednesday in dana point, check their website for info.  just a thought but maybe call them and get the low down on the aviso/infinity pairing

Thanks for the response and welcome to the forum or at least congrats on your first post.  I'm in Cen Cal and too far for a plain demo day to make it down to South Orange County.  But thanks for the info because unstable and fragile is not what I'm after.

I have used it for about two weeks and it is light. I used it in oceanside at the surf monkey race and finished with a semi respectable fourth. I did ding it but it was with a solid collision in the surf and would have dinged any board. I think Aviso and infinity have a winner.  I am getting it back shortly and if anyone wants to take it for a spin and is in the Dana Point area hit me up.

I got to try one about a month ago in a prototype form. I was blown away by the weight and even more blown away by the speed. I am 190lbs and it felt really really fast. It should be stable for a light rider or intermediate to advanced bigger person. It was fine for me, i would rather sacrifice a little stability for speed any day.  The one i tried also had a small hole in the rail so i was concerned about durability as well but was told it is being worked out for production. Aviso has been making carbon boards for the top surfboard brands for awhile now so i'm sure they will get this board dialed. I am on the waiting list to get one hopefully later this month! I am in the Newport Beach, CA area if anyone wants to give mine a go throw me an email.

I think that there are some images of the board on the SUP business site and on Infinity blog.  I would link them or post them but that is way to tech for me.

That board is insanely light! PaddleSurfWarehouse lists it as just 12 lbs :o. It looks to have a nice racing shape.

The construction technology is pretty radical. It's a hollow carbon board with a storage compartment and a hatch.

How much faster will a race board go because of lighter weight? With 12'6" race shapes seeming to converge to more or less similar shapes, will weight be the greater differentiating factor?

By the way, 404 Boards, Danny Ching and Greg Jensen's company, will be coming out with Danny's winning BOP Hawaii board in Aviso's hollow carbon construction. The 404 board is optimized for BOP conditions (waves and flats) while the Infinity looks to be optimized more for flatwater racing.

Here are some links and photos:

My biggest concern about this construction is durability. Based on comments here, it looks like it's prone to punctures because of the hollow design.

What's the board in the picture just above the "infinity" logo?

THAT LOOKS FAST!!!  Displacement nose quickly flattening out to a planing hull...

That's Aviso's touring board. It's got tons of storage in its high volume hollow shell. It's 31 inches wide and not designed as a race board but some say it's pretty fast since it's so light.

Check out the storage room in one of its two hatches:
