C-St Ventura, CA this morning.
« on: July 25, 2010, 10:05:36 AM »
There's a broken paddle hung up in free lot stating "NO STAND UPS". By 9 AM there where 10 of us out there. Pic show's 9, because I left before they start slashing my tires again, and again and again. Yup, got me three times, now I buy used tires.

Power in numbers! Get your yourself a mean dog and leash it to your vehicle when you are in the water. No more tire problems I bet.

Perhaps a gopro or two inside vehicle while you're surfing?

is it an aluminum paddle?...my broken paddle was up there for a long time a couple years ago...
 :D

just go pay the measly 2$ and park in the pay lot next to the  toll booth attendants car...one space past the concrete barriers on the street side of the lot...people are usually too busy getting in the lot and find a spot to go surf to worry about what it is you are taking out of your car...

but the FREE LOT..yeah ...im not surprised there are problems there...those guys just basically sit there all day and bitch and complain and bitch and complain...all day about everything under the sun...

then take the cowardly way out and do not confront you about but take it out out on your car...or in my case spit on my motorcycle helmet...dont understand why it hasnt beed pissed in yet...

weak...

 ;D

Glad to see the post, at least in the sense that someone else shared my dismay. I parked about midway down the fairgrounds ($2) lot at 6:30 am. Got a friendly note attached to my windshield (attached) telling me SUPs were not welcome. They did at least use properly spelling, punctuation, and the word "please". I wouldn't have taken it seriously but for the story about fumasters' story about his tires.

Worth pointing out that most prone surfers I see in the water are friendly, including today. But today also got shouted off a wave in Stables area that nobody else could have caught, and nobody did catch, followed up by an advisement that I had to get surfboard if I wanted to surf there. Lots of responses are possible, but I wonder if there is some kind of unified strategy that SUPers can take in response to these kinds of incidents?

Basically, I am thinking "my name is Boca de Sino and I live on Bangor Lane, I surf too, I don't want any trouble, what is your name and where are you coming from?" I think it might be a little bit more of the aloha vibe that we are looking for.

they call themselves the "midpoint mafia" and they hang out at the midpoint of c-st...maybe 40 yds past the tollbooth...they always park and hang out just before the first set of white concrete barricades on the ocean side of the lot...i have pics i will post later...gotta dig around for them...

but yes just like the free lot they sit around all day and bitch and complain about everything under the sun...basically a bunch of grouchy old guys trying to relive past glories of back in the days of the 70's and 80's when ventura and oxnard really was a locals only place...they also usually have a few MMA types  around for intimidation factor...tattoos all over the arms, TapOut/affliction tshirts, mean scowls, shaved heads, that type of thing...

about 6 years ago before the midpoint mafia there was the "c-st militia"...they did basically the same thing out there although there were no SUPs back then their enemy was longboarders with paddle gloves...and instalocs or anyone NOT from the 805...

guys riding 10' AIPAs with paddle gloves and orange hats were NOT very popular...

Noted and it was in jest.  That said, I don't think it's unexpected when you're having a discussion about people being hassled and having their tires slashed.

How about we really have some fun and host a sponsored, advertised stand up event there?

Bring the press, cameras, booths, demo boards and all the So Cal Standup crew?

Get volunteers to handle lot security and just make a day of it.

Man, I might invite some Kayakers too.

Does anyone have experience organizing an event like that suggested by Cowboy? Would be sweet. C-street has lots of parking, etc.

Linus, we need a sponsor. H2Oman could probably host. ;)

LMAO!!!

"There's a reason Hawaii will never be a real state!!!"

Dudes complaining about how crowded a line up is while they are NOT surfing - classic!

Wow, the beer and cigs were classic. Only thing missing was the perpetual talking about some past drunken fight. Reminds me of County Line, too.
