Deck Pad for Distance
« on: July 21, 2010, 02:40:12 PM »
I know this subject has been covered before but I wanted to check in to see if there were any new opinions on the best pad out there for distance paddling.

I am looking for a pad for a 12'6'' distance board (29'' wide) that I had shaped for me locally here in the northeast.  I heard great things about the Maxfield Provisions pads and ordered one online about a month ago...unfortunately, I haven't seen it yet (better check my cc card bill to see if the transaction actually went through :o).  I tried contacting Maxfield but haven't had any luck.

So now I am searching for the next best option.....Any suggestions?

Around here (Oahu, Hawaii) the consensus among most SUP surfers is that C4 makes the most comfy pad. Some guys I surf with who have a boards from a manufacturer other than C4 have put a C4 pad on their board.

I gave up on Maxfeild. He never followed through with his promises.

He's just reselling the Xtrac pad. Buy direct from Xtrac.

Thanks for the advice DW.  I will go direct through Xtrac.  Also, I did not mean for this thread to be about Maxfield.....

Shawn was a generous sponsor to the CCBC last year and my goal was to try to support one of our sponsors by buying the pad through his site.  For whatever reason, it did not work out...so it is time to move on....I need a pad.

I've heard good things about the Maxfield or Xtrac pads - really light, good when you are trying to keep the weight down.

I just wish Naish used better pads on their boards.  A bit too slick when you aren't standing on the waffle part of the pad.

I spoke with xtrak and they are not making the 88" pads anymore, nor are they making black and dark grey.....because of reports of shrinkage.....

sounds kinda wierd, anyone have this happen?

thanks

Shawn has been a generous sponsor for the CCBC from the start. His gear has been topnotch and he was always responsive. He was also actually selling the xtrac pads for less than what xtrac sells them for direct. I have no idea what has happened lately. Personally I'm just hoping he's OK...haven't heard back on emails I've sent. This isn't a big heartless company we're talking about...he's one of us.

I have the red pad on my Vec and White on my 12-6...no shrinkage on those colors....red has bleached a little from UV...hope it doesn't go to pink... ::)
