update: no water loss in the shade and the bubbling has stopped.   :D :D .  Thanks, richard, for the bubbling explanation; i'm going to go with that and my previous evaporation idea and conclude that all is well and that i've got nothing to worry about except worry itself!

And oh yes, i am going to keep track of the board's weight.

right now my 10' Mana, with fins, pad and leash, weighs 29 lbs.

has anyone else weighed their 10'er?  care to share the weight?

When goretex vents first appeared there were several guys talking them up as being awesome because they could see the bubbling while surfing, proving the vent was needed.

I had to grind my 16mm socket down thinner on my bench grinder to make it fit. My vents come from corsica engineering. He supplies most US builders. They say some sockets fit in his vents without grinding.

Most nutdrivers are thinner wall than sockets are, you might try a 16MM driver--if you can find one. Snap-on sockets also tend to be thin, and the 1/4" drive is often thinner than 3/8". But grinding socket walls thinner is a long and honorable tradition. The easy way to do it is to fit a long extension to the socket and let it turn lightly in your hand while you hold it to the bench grinder. If you're fussy you can finish on a belt grinder and get a nice smooth surface. Always nice to have the right tool.

I'm going to install multiple Goretex vents in my F18--I've kicked out the vented cork once already, and that was one time too many. I plan to make them removable for draining (hollow board) and pumping air through to dry out the board.

Richard,
thanks for that bit about the "wobbly" top being normal.....upon closer look at the schematic on the thread, i see that the two indeed are not one piece, and that this would be normal. I think i will still put some water in the recess and see what happens....

Linter,
I weighed my 10' Mana on the bathroom scale with me holding it and came up with about 30lbs so your good.....

Hi All,

I just picked up my new bamboo naish mana 10'0". The vent plug that was supplied must be  a new version. It's a black plastic or nylon construction. The only thing that concerns me is that is does not come with a rubber ring/washer. Does anyone know if this is by design? did the gore-tex vent plugs come with a rubber ring/washer?

Cheers,

b :)

brought back from the dead.

How do these plugs work? are you supposed to see bubbles coming out of the vent? I would think the water is getting in if you see bubbles?

I get bubbles coming out of mine.. It's nothing to worry about.. that's how they work.

the bubble/air is from inside your board when the it heats up. The goretex membrane only allow air pass through but not water molecule.  It will also suck air back in to the board when it cools down, which maintain an equal air pressure inside and out.

Itmakes sense but I think it would be freaky to watch bubbles from the board.

I prefer that over a big delam bubble on my board. But i got to said, i have a longboard with two delam running on the inside of the triple stringer, it is the most comfortable board to knee paddle on. ;D
