Personally, Barbados rocks!

Have been there twice, and find the scene mostly layed back. As always, a little respect and patience goes a long way. Given the small size of the island, there is generally swell from one direction or another that will make any one of a couple of dozen spots work. Plus, you can choose from the mellow beginers vibe at Surfers Point, all the way thru the world class Soup Bowls, on up to the monster size Duppies on the far northwest coast.

I was lucky enough to get a couple of days northwest swell in early October a few years ago, and found Sandy Lane to be one of my most favorite surf spots ever. It was so tasty it couda been chocolate cake? And eight foot peak on the face, with an almost mechanical character.
Medium, smallish reef break to die for.

Some of the larger stuff was frankly, over my head

pr is great but not many waves in the summer just stick to the popular breaks be really respectful and dont take many waves. talk to the locals be cool. barbados is way mellower bathsheba  (soup bowls/ parlors)can be a little windy and choppy but great waves but super tough paddle out if its chest high or bigger which it usually is look for the south end  (south point)or west coast for perfect small peelers but sharp reefs but well worth the cuts.

barbados is amazing, contact Zed Lawson http://www.barbadossurfholidays.com/ as i think he's jusst started doing SUP rental down at Ostins.

there were a few SUP'rs when i was last out, although i was shortboarding as it was pretty good swell when i went.  freights ins a sup dream, long, long lefts in beautiful crystal water, turtles everywhere!

keep your fingers crossed for a nice NW swell... the west coast lights up, got some s i c k waves, & poo'd my boardies a few times!

Congrats, in Tortola if you are going during the winter chances are you will be able to find some good surf. There is a shop that has rentals, I believe it is called HIHO

Have fun

Thanks all...looking forward to it. We'll be going next Feb. Thing that sucks about cruises is the limited time in each location....but I'll be making the best of it.....next vacation I get to pick.

Hey Stoneaxe,

I'll be around in Febuary, I have a PSH 10'6" or a C4 Holoholo that would work(I got smaller ones too if you want them) your welcome to use any you'd like & I would enjoy a paddle with you. I'm on St.John but am always looking for the excuse to go to Tortola. If there's a swell I'll be there anyway.
HIHO does have some rentals on Tortola, there's a post here somewhere.

Hope to see you on the water. Cheers, SupV.

Talk to Jamie at Velauno for boards in Puerto Rico.   Bunch of boards to choose from, close to the water and the cruise ships.   5 minutes from the cruise dock.

velauno.com I think is the website.

Thanks for the offer SUPv...I'll definitely get in touch....just talked to the boss...we chose this cruise because she wants to see Tortola but she's cool with hooking up for a paddle.

VIP...Going to be on PR a day or two prior to sailing so thats sounds perfect...thanks

oh wow bob have a blast!

if you surf little apple bay in tortola, watch out for the local with a mouth full of sparkly metal and a bad attitude toward people w/ paddles.  ask me how i know!

and if kane garden breaks, surf far enuf out so if you get really mashed by a big un, you don't get dragged into the wood jetty.  didn't happen to me exactly but it was close enuf that i got scared.

man, am i envious!

hey Bob have a great trip  sounds as if you did your homework and have a good plan for SUP

In St.Lucia they have windsurf/kite/sup rentals in the south in Vieux Fort, but that's quite a drive or taxi fare (1 1/2  hrs) from Castries where your ship will come in   probably not worth it to tell you the truth because the trades blow pretty big this time of year in that area

You are going to love Barbados  Brian is such a great guy and that area offers alot of SUP options...if you were there longer there are dozens of breaks perfect for SUP

have a great time and be sure to sample the rum on each island and try and eat some roti too
