used boards equals free vacation

A friend of mine forwarded me an e-mail from the Costa Azul Resort in Mexico which is offering free nights in exchange for used boards.  SUPs get 2 nights at this all inclusive low key adventure resort.  Their goal is to have the best surf and sup rental gear in Mexico .  The website is below but doesn't mention this offer.  I tried t post the e-mail but couldn't seem to get it to cut and paste  I would say contact the rsort for details..sounds like a great way of paying for a vacation

This is quite an original marketing concept.  The value would depend on how the cost of the room equates to the baggage fees and the value of the used board(s).   If anyone gives this a go let us know how it turns out.

Good idea but I think 2 nights might not be enough to call it a "deal".  I brought 1 board with me to Costa Rica for a Zoner and the airline baggage alone was $100.  With the  cost of a board, that better be A pretty nice resort

2 nights for a boards does seem a little steep.
They have $699. for a week - all inclusive - at the resort on their web site.

I gave a friend of mine 2 new paddles to leave at his condo in Punta de mita - and he is giving me a week - every year for them!

thats the worst deal ever, so i could sell my board here and stay a week or give it to them after paying $100 to get it there and get 2 nights. seems like a lost.

nobody is twisting your arm, and I didn't give all the details but the e-mail offer sounds ok.  If you are heading to the resort anyway and have a board surf or SUP , maybe used that you could live without after the trip it sounds like a decent offering.  On many of my surf trips in the past, I traveled with the intention of selling a board or two board before returning.  If you can pack a surf and a SUP in one bag and leave the surboard behind, you get a free night from how I see it.

It's a great idea..I live in a surf rich area with no good boards to be had.
Travel and sell or barter your board & spread the stoke.
You may even get turned on to some good out of the way spots.

Quick Update -

These guys will give you a free week for a surfboard. A SUP doubles that deal. A bit more like it.

Indeed Bill, it got all of us talking about a spot and if they end up with a collection of used boards, I'll bet it's cooler than the dozen identical 12'6" Surftech Softops that everyone else has at resorts. (I'd ride any member of the Zone's old board on vaca, for the record)

The performance rental thing is hard from what I'm finding out. I guess that's the case in any newish sport, but as I look for surf-specific trips, I'll be keeping an eye on who's got good gear nearby.

Some buddies of mine and I are thinking of Mexico this winter and I'm looking at places with a good rental program for me. (they are all shortboarders) Right there's a few thousand dollars of income that's gonna hinge on whether or not they've got a collection of "surf-able" SUP's.
