Hi Big Island Mike.I know the box beach your talking about and your right its really a sponge spot. The Box Im talking about is a 500 metre paddle of Umina beach on the central coast which breaks left for up to1500metres on a good day. Its mainly surfed by surfers arriving by boat or water taxi from Sydney.I will post some photos.
Cheers.

Sorry, I just saw your post. I bought my dow corning pink foam at ACE hardware. Our local Home Depot doesn't seem to have anything resembling pink foam -(you can shape pink foam almost just like regular surfboard foam)- just stuff that looks like styrofoam(Crescent City, CA). The foam that I bought comes in thin ~2" panels that my buddy the sailboard builder laminates with gorilla glue and a thin sheet of balsa orwhat I bought which the thicker 4"? x3' panels on special order. To make the gorilla glue penetrate the closed cell foam punch tons of holes in it with a nail so the glue can get a good hold.

Have fun!

I am on the Nth coast of NSW and I see a few SUPs around,

Hey Nev...Have you ever SUPed at Ballina in the river mouth? My Mum lives nearby and when we visit (without our boards) and look at the Ballina bar and watch the big swells push into the river mouth and all the way up to and under Missingham Bridge...we get all excited coz it looks like the perfect SUP wave....long slow and hip high

Where do your SUP on the NSW Nth Coast? I think we should take our boards down when we visit Mum next...coz Ballina around the park on the Bridge looks great. Tell me more if you know anything about it.

Thanks mate
Janita K

Hi Janita
I have not SUP at ballina bridge yet but have seen it break heaps of times  and recon it would be great. Its a bit of a large swell novelty spot for mals and sailboards that is mostly quite fat and slow. Even if you do not get the right swell for the bridge there are heaps of good spots around. If you head south from ballina you will find less crowded line ups. I am about 1hr south, but there are heaps of spots all along the coast and you would be mad if you did not bring your boards.

anyway have fun

May be going to the Noosa Surf fest in '08.  Going?  Motor up to DIP if the swell is on?
