Leleo Kinimaka on the 10' PSH All Arounder
« on: December 02, 2007, 08:41:18 AM »
Here's some pics with Leleo riding our 10' All Around model.    Leleo is 190 lbs.    All in all the board is just one of our basic 10' models.   Nothing radical.   Just a good all around board for a variety of conditions.

Same Model as this...   10' x 28-1/4 x 4-1/4"

Early entry...  He had some crazy long nose rides...

He shot out of bottom turns pretty nicely.    Fins he was running were Future 375 Pivot sides and a 8' Island Fin Design Flex Fin in the center.

His cut backs were nice and smooth carrying plenty speed...

Speed allows everything to be easier.   Our goal is to make boards that paddle well, are fast AND be able to re-direct quickly...    All Arounder means... Nose ride? Check.    Rip a turn? Check!

He pulled this little floater and a few more...

We actually scored this spot and we got so many waves without having to hassle with anyone.   Leleo showed up as we were leaving and I figured take a few pics of him riding this board.    He only rode the board once before so this was his second surf on it.       Fun little waves...

Aloha,
Blane

When I was Learing to wave sail (windsurfing) about 15 years ago and was having a hard time trying to make it look good, the best advice I ever got was" Speed is your friend" It works for just about any kind of wave riding.

Great pics!  Blane, do you think someone riding smaller and less powerful east coast surf would be better on something like this or should I go towards a 9'4" more performance model?  Our waves in FL are usually knee to head high but do not have the power of hawaii.  Right now I am on the SOS Blue.  Sweet looking board!

Great pix and thanks for sharing.  Interesting that I seem to getting more from the stills linked together than video.

Blane, enjoy where you mind is, what you are reading in the photos & influenced your board design.  I have met many shapers but few are able or willing to go beyond verbalizing one on one and into the written word.

Good photos, nice board.
Whatever the board, Leleo Kinimaka would make crazy noserides and rip full speed turns. wouldn't he?

Good question. I have to spend a few months in Jacksonville next September and I've started to think about this. I think I might bring a fuller nose model. Something in the 9'0 to 9'6" range for transportability. While I haven't ridden the board Leleo's on, I'm willing to bet it would be a good board for FL. I don't think you really need a pulled in nose for majority of the surf you have out there (at least from what I've seen). I've ridden a couple of the fuller Nose PSH boards and they are super fun and surf really well.

I agree.  The only problem I still have is on offshore days I feel I get too muchlift from the board.  This could be do to the lenghtI feel.  Still not sure but I think the 10' is looking more like the better choice fr FL.  Let me know when you come down to FL, always looking for more people to paddle with.

I think certian competitions in Hawaii are going to limit the boards to 10 feet max. That is probably why Leleo is on this 10 footer when he may prefer his shorter boards, need to practice th 10.0.

It is time for competitions to go with 2 classes, longboard (stock class) and unlimited.
