inflatable SUP?
« on: November 12, 2007, 11:24:32 AM »
Hello everybody,
I just found that C4, one of the many brands that is now offering SUP boards, is making an inflatable board (!?). At first I tought it was a joke, then saw pics and video (see http://store.c4waterman.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C4ULI&CartID=1).
I don't think anybody on Maui would need/want to ride such a thing, but for guy like myslef living on Manhattan (another island), without neither a car nor much storage room, that would actually work great.....
provided that the board has a decent performance level. I don't expect it to have the stiffness of a carbon/kevlar composite board; but I have seen surfboards made with the construction of bodyboards, maybe it will compare to something like that..you could potentially get the stiffness of a car tire.
If you see/test such board I'd appreciate your comments!
We have already inflatable kites, and considering the recent BA ban on boards, and the ever improving technology, maybe inflatable boards are the future..
thank you,
marcos

I keep wondering if this is a real travel alternative. I will take 2-3 airline trips next year - 5 days to 6 weeks - way too long to rent boards.
The real question is will you have a good time on it after being used to a regular sup?
In one instance I have a very generous offer of help from a local, but it would be great to have something you can travel with w/o the hassle of oversize luggage. And some airlines have a 10' limit.
The ULI website has some good information.

steamr: do you know the width of that board?  i gotta say you really ride it well, and you're a pretty big guy, too.  what're your impressions of it in general as maybe a travel board?
