Hi all,

in bottom of my garage I got this thick 10 footer longboard.
the topic" future of longboarding" gave me some idea:
why not to convert this no- more-used longboard  into a SUP?
I like the rocker ( tail 3"1/2 nose 4"1/2)
Step 1: cut each side 1"3/4 from rail edges
step 2- widen the board- insert foam strips to
step 3- scratch deck
step 4- stick extra foam on deck.
step 5- re- shape
step 6- glass ( to do)
board was 22"3/4 width, it's now 27"3/4.
thisckness from 3" increased to 3"3/4 with step deck and rails.
board was single fin, I' m thinking about adding 2 twins.

There are no wingers tail is quite narrow with very small squash!... I put inserts on the nose to rebuild rails with a good shape but the splits stop at abt 9" from tail.... tail width 15"1/2 nose 19"... max 27"3/4  thick abt , will be a bit un stable.
top glassed tonight, my hands sticking on key board now!
I hope it's finished for next weekend!

I love the idea of just splitting the rails. It will make the board a bit wider. This will open a lot of avenues for some old longboard that's still able to rip and open up idea's................at lease in my mind.

Your right Paddle......I wish I thought of it earlier...Thanks Pierre of the Idea!........Mahalo

Aloha......Sam

The creativity of you guys is simply amazing.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Ok, it's re-glassed now- remains twin fins ,final coat and a carrying handle & deck grip...
Thanks to Plappe, Sam and Bill for their friendly replies,
But it's not so easy job to make it correctly:
first when cutting rails, make sure your electric saw blade is large enough in order to allow a straight cut,in one time, at 90° from bottom.
Then when inserting foam and reassembling it's not so easy to keep rails on line.
As rail curve is increased ( bended) fiberglass is delaminating at places so I needed to cut small gaps.
I chose to keep tail block the same but it's possible to cut down to the tail if you like a larger tail.
Now it's looking a bit ugly and for sure it will be heavier that a new EPS board, this one is extruded ( styro foam)
I used expanding PU foam fo reassemble and sticking deck.
Pix of finished board after few days.
Test on water ASAP, this is the purpose of job.

This reminds me of an old '67 Dewey Weber Performer that I used to surf as a teenager.  I would stand on it and watch for sets!  It was so wide that I couldn't hold it under my arm!

You're right, I must think about this old car now! It needs some maintenance and upgrade ...
My remaining epoxy and fiberglass  should be used to glass bottom plate at first, in order to repair naughty holes from corrosion  :D

Another idea came to me: Iget this 20 years old windsurf board, i'm thinking to build another SUB from it... but i intend to proceed another way: split in the center and widen it...
The board is 8'5" long, 21"1/2 wide, 3"3/4 thick, by adding 7" in the middle and increase tail kick it's gonna make a funny SUP board....
let's think about it, it time permitting.

If you split it down the middle it would be neat add 2 stingers to it. One on each side of the new foam.

If I do it i wo't add stringers

but actual rocker ofboard is fwd: 7" and aft: 2"1/2
nose rocker seems little too much?
