notice your paddle skills on land
« on: May 12, 2009, 05:38:43 AM »
I have been paddle surfing a few years now and love how the paddle interacts while surfing.  It is used for turning, taking off, station keeping, and of course paddling.

I am now doing an addition to my home.  I am in the digging stages of the foundation so I am using a shovel.  It is amazing how the shovel in my hands is responding more like a paddle.  I find myself using it like a paddle while I am standing and leaning on it sort of like waiting for a wave, using the shovel to regain balance if out of balance due to footing and shoveling.  I never used the shovel consistently like this before sup.

I think everyone who works with shovels, hoes, rakes, brooms and such should give sup a try.  I bet it will increase their productivity.  I know in the surf I catch 10 time as many waves with the paddle.

You guys are welcome to come over any time...work on your skills!
Too many for the rack
Some in the shack
Some under decks
Some have straps

This is so weird. I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday afternoon. I've been buffing the aluminum cabinets that I built into my race car trailer, and I was thinking how much easier it was to swing that big buffer around with my paddling skills (and paddling muscles). The muscle memory of anticipating and controlling the paddle made it so much more efficient for me to control that bugger.

Without a doubt...I was raking on friday + tripped over a branch. As i was falling I  swung the rake around behind me to lean on just like a paddle. Full save. I dont think the thought ever went through my head. Just a natural reaction at this point. Many conversations with Tree about this.

Irony or coincidence:
When we're out in the water we're called "sweepers" and when we're cleaning the garage, we're called "paddlers".

The next step is to put the Go-Pro on the rake.

Roombas are awesome. Entertaining just to watch. Smarter than my dog.
