This past weekend, our Standup Journal associate publisher Steve Sjuggerud became the first person to standup paddle Disney's wave pool.

He had a ton of fun with some other buds...

Steve says it was much better than he imagined it could be. The pics don't quite do it justice -- what a great way to get waves to yourself! "_

AHH!!! I am so bummed.  I have been wanting to do this for a while but things have never worked out quite right.  I think i would be very cool there as the wave doe not have that much power but is still fun

Very, very cool...what a blast!

Hehe...I already have the Vinyard ferry scoped out...definitely rideable. Not to sure how happy they would be with me on their wake though. I am going to talk to some of the bigger local fishing boats. Even going out they are fully loaded with ice and put up a nice wake.

Wow, looks pretty empty -- did he sneak in there at night?  ;D

I'd love to see a security cam shot of him jumping the wall with his board...

Steve Sjuggerud, our Standup Journal assoc. publisher who lives/surfs in northern Florida said it was a ton of fun at the wave pool... "much better than I imagined it could be."

The full sequence and a little story is here:  http://sites.google.com/site/standupjournal

It looks like they had the best waves in Florida this past weekend.  We were about as flat as it gets this past weekend on the east coast.  That looks like fun.

Freighters don't work, or at least the new ones don't. they have the bulbs under the nose that kills the wake--some HUGE freighters leave just a little ripple. The BEST waves are from barges being pushed by tugs. They do about five-six knots so it's pretty easy to jump the wake, and once you're in it's a steep face. Generally the barge crew doesn't care, but I had one crew totally freak out on me last summer. No idea what that was about.

I doubt the ferry guys would let you anywhere near their boats--most of them are operated by either governmental organizations or quasi-gov. The Superferry was pretty serious about keeping surfers away from it.
