King's 8'8" Punisher
« on: March 24, 2017, 12:07:01 PM »
Last summer I worked with Dave Daum at King's on this custom Punisher.

8'8" x 30.75" x 3.75" x 110 liters. Carbon and glass. KTM orange.

Subtle chine rails to tucked soft edge to hard edge starting just before the fins.

Wide channel in nose feeding to single wide subtle concave to slight vee through the fins.

We spent a lot of time discussing the tail. I loved the way my single bump square worked on my Accelerator and insisted that was what would work. We fussed on the depth of the wing and the width of the square tail. It works!

Have ridden it in large oh hurricane swells and one foot mush. The elusive balance between fast and loose is right there.

Another incredible board from Dave Daum and King's!

I guess this qualifies as board porn. You've built up an impressive quiver as well.

News flash! The Pumpkin as it is affectionately known absolutely rips as a Twin Fin.

FCS II giant MR's with a little trailer. Works really well in combination with the bump wing square tail.

We have had so many great waves recently on CC.

Have also discovered what works in the Accelerator. Sshh.

Whaaaaat! There's no such thing.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Dave gave me one just about the same size as yours to try last year when he was at Dog Patch. He said it's probably under my 245 lbs liter limit, but the shape will help with stability. I gave it a good 20 minutes of struggling inside with a bunch of chop and only got to my feet twice. Granted, I had already just surfed for about 4 hours prior to that and my legs were a little noodled. But the few times I did get to my feet, the board was completely submersed. So the Tomo / Pumpkin shape only gets you so far with reducing the liters. I'd still like to fry one in my liter range. Glad your have fun with it :)
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

TallDude, I weigh in at a massive 145 in my summer fighting trim! So the 109 liters is fine for me. Water 💦 is beginning to creep over the rails.

I know it's way more stable than my 104 Accelerator, I think the surface area on the square boards, or a longboard like the Infinity New Deal 9' 104 liter add a lot to stability even if the Literage is not that high.

Listened to an interesting podcast from paddlewoo and one of the top JP riders is NOT going for negative buoyancy as in a contest the slightly higher level of performance is more than offset by not getting to enough waves.

Underwater paddling very slow 🐌 and tiresome.

OBTW, I call it the Pumpkin because of the KTM Orange 🍊 brushed carbon finish.
Still not absolutely sure about the carbon as it is light, but I actually notice the slight increase in stiffness compared to Innegra or multiple layers of 4 ounce.

Fussy, fussy, fussy!
