TENS machine
« on: March 21, 2017, 08:52:00 AM »
I'm shocked.....a little PDX humor to start a thread is always good..... ;)

Seriously though....I'm very surprised at how effective this thing is for me. My wife bought it for me....found it in a clearance rack and put it in my stocking last Christmas. I hadn't expressed any interest she just happened to see it and grabbed it thinking it might help my back pain. I was very skeptical and didn't even try it until a couple weeks ago when my back was tweaking. I stuck it on either side of my spine on my lower back and cranked it up...sucker hurts a little at 1st then just turns into a buzzing feeling after a few minutes. I was working at home that day and used it a couple times for 1/2 hour or so. It wasn't until later that day that I realized my back felt great...no pain at all. Since then I've used it a couple more times with the same effect. My back is tweaking a bit today which made me think of it. I'll be zapping it again tonight. Worth a shot for those that have pain issues.

Fortunately, I don't have back pain...but, I did pick up a couple at a wellness expo after doing a demo on a strained tendon...
They really do block your pain receptors from registering pain...I also found it to be an effective recovery tool...and, the foot massagers are great while sitting at the desk...

Does it work on other parts of your body? (No, not those parts! ;D) Like would it help with shoulder or other muscle/joint pains?

I bought "something" on February 16th which my orthopedic surgeon recommended for my lower back pain, but I'm still trying it out. It was delivered to my home on February 18th.

If it works and so far it feels like it is working, I'll make a new topic somewhere most likely in the Random forum since I don't think it fits in this forum. But I have to give it two months of time before the jury comes back in for the verdict. If it doesn't work, I'll forgo the new topic.

We have a tens unit and use it all the time. It works everywhere you have a muscle issue. Just make sure that the pads are on muscle and not a bone. Doesn't do anything unless its surrounding the problem muscle. You can ice while its on too for a serious therapy.

Yeah, I have an el Cheapo unit I picked up at a race track vendor booth someplace. Works great. I don't think it's gonna help my double vision, but for general muscle pain that doesn't involve a tear it's pretty good. I should try it on my carpal tunnel stuff.

I had no clue you could just go out and buy one of those. It was used in PT to rehab my knee/atrophy years ago. Chiro has used one in the past as well with one of my sciatica episodes. One guy had one, the other didn't over a few year stretch and years ago. Once you settle in it's just wonderful. Seemed to help my leg get firing again for sure for the atrophy. Don't think it helped my sciatica overall other than it was bliss while it was going but knowing I can get one now I think I will and won't be limited to a few minutes a time or few a week.

I thought she just found it in a store but she actually found it on Amazon.....$30. HealthmateForever Electronic pulse massager. It has a single button push for different cycles....supposedly for different spots. I just put in on the back setting and turn up the intensity to max. It cycles through 3 or 4 patterns of stimulation. Still surprised it works so well.

I might just slap it on my head and see if it fixes the double vision.  My up close vision has improved, but I suspect that just my brain adapting.  I spent three times the normal effort trying to put screwdrivers in their pegboard holes without closing one eye this afternoon. It was actually kind of fun.

I'm not sure if you were joking there, but you'd need to be very careful about using TENS on the head. Don't, for instance, apply to the temples. I presume you know the cause of your diplopia? If not, you really should get it checked out.

On the head?  A little home electroshock therapy can really cheer you up and make those bad memories go away.

Well, faster than usual anyway at this age.

Yeah, I was joking. Don't know the cause yet. I've had an MRI, nothing nasty shown. At roughly the same time as the symptoms appeared, I had a virus that yielded sinus symptoms (the first in years), and a sebaceous cyst on my neck got inflamed from wetsuit pressure, then broke and drained. So some suspects but nothing conclusive. The diagnosis is that the right side sixth cranial nerve is damaged. Seems to be getting a little better, or at least no worse.
