That ad must be at least 50 years old or older. Those Aquaskims remind me of winter snowshoes when one has to trudge through deep snow.

@pdxmike

Just curious.

Since you still have them, when is the last time you took them out and used them?

I think we need an official Zoner video of those water shoes.

There was a guy here in Hood River who was using a more "modern" version recently--essentially a SUP sawed in half down the stringer, attached with a sliding mechanism. The bottom must have had one-direction flaps--he was going pretty fast on it, doing kind of an elliptical-style jog. Like a Nordic Track for the water.

FOTFLOL. Nordic poles but with huge inverted-umbrella baskets too?

Gotta love the crazy stuff however. Like wings for skiing.

 Now if you could get those things up on a foil, I'd be all in.

Just considering inflation, $20 in 1960 is the same as $350 today. Add in the differential cost of skilled labor (beyond inflation) and you're at $400.

If they still made those things today, I wouldn't pay $400 for them. In fact, with my bad lower back, I wouldn't even try demoing a pair.

I never used them after high school or college, except I think we messed around with them a few years ago.  Like I said in the old link, it was really hard to keep your legs from splaying outwards.  It may have worked better in still water, but the Sound isn't usually that calm.

I used them with two short raft oars, but they might work better with a kayak or standup paddle.  The flaps never really worked because they didn't drop down enough to catch water when you pushed back, so I used the oars.  If you lashed them together and used a standup paddle, that might be best of all, but at that point you're basically just paddling a horrible standup board.

Best thing is being out there in the same place doing standup, saying hello to some of the same people sitting on their decks who remember me out there on my weird aqua shoes in the 70s.

I   would  think  that  you  could  attach  two  short  ropes  between  them , one  in  the  front  and  one  in  the  rear , that  would  keep  them  from  spaying . You  might  be  able  to  reintroduce  them. I'm  sure  the  patent  has  run  out .

Actually, I can see them thinking the aqua shoes were weird, but it's hard to imagine them thinking it was weird more recently seeing a 135-lb. dog floating by on his own board.
