Downwinding NSP and SIC Unlimiteds - Vid
« on: March 17, 2017, 08:56:17 AM »
We had one of those days where at the start of the downwind run we thought maybe the conditions would be too big for our unlimited boards. But as it turned out the wind was strongest at the beginning of the run. Not though before we got the 3rd Person Rig on the NSP Travis Grant 17-10 from the SiCMaui Bullet 17-4.

That was a most excellent video. Great in high definition too. The camera angle makes me feel I'm right behind you off to your left side.

I always enjoy watching your videos. Thanks for sharing this video.

Really nice vid OS!  Always great to have different rider perspectives on diff boards.  The majestic 17.4 vs the narrower NSP with hand steering.  Like it!  :)

Hi Off-shore, always appreciate your videos showing different DW boards. I have a question about your post. You said that at first you thought that the conditions might be too big for your unlimiteds. On Maui, guys are riding unlimiteds all the time in 25 to 30 mph winds, and in my limited experience I have found the SIC 16 unlimited to be awesome in those conditions. What is it about the boards you were on would cause you to worry about them being wrong for the conditions?

Nice. Looks cold, but what a great place to DW. That Travis Grant NSP performs a lot like the V3 Bullet 17. Constant poking with not much penalty.

Thanks for all your comments. That was one fun run, although it being a northerly wind in February it was one of the coldest days in Hong Kong.

To answer your question Nalu-Sup, when we set off on the run it was blowing real hard, and what I should have said is we both thought it might be too big for US BOTH on our unlimiteds (i.e. for us, not for the boards). When it is that strong at the start of the run, it gets to be pretty big 9-10kms (6 miles) downwind. As it turned out the wind dropped significantly and so it was not as hairy as we thought it would be... Having said that, I'd always prefer to be on an unlimited when conditions are big. I love my F16 most of all as I just feel safer with that than almost any other board.

I built a combination waist leash/third party camera mount that also has five pounds of float. I need to dig it out of the pile of stuff we brought back from this year in SoCal and test it. Look like you get some good use out of yours.
