No Javelins in 2018?
« on: July 15, 2017, 08:35:11 AM »
I heard from a trusted source that Naish is discontinuing the Javelin next year. The Maliko sales must be alot better?  I was intrigued by the video of the Javelin in flat water......the way the water passes around and over that strange nose looks pretty smooth and quiet. Not as great as it looks?  I'd sure like to try one someday.

I think it just reflects the current format of races, and the importance of drafting in them. If we did distance time trials in flatwater instead, everyone would be on displacement nose boards.

It would be a shame to see the Javelin name finally disappear. It's much better than e.g. "The Sprint". Although the Maliko is technically the "Javelin Maliko", isn't it?

I really don't understand why they decided to Add Javelin to the Maliko name......unless the name Javelin means "expensive" in some native sup jargon :)........

Maybe they will drop the "Maliko" next year and then what is now the Maliko will be the Javelin, which has better brand recognition.

I mentioned this in another thread a while back. I was told via the distributor network back in April who had been to the 2018 meeting. The reason was that the relative flexibility of the Maliko was more popular with the sponsored riders and the speed difference between them was less than suggested.

Yep, upon some race data analysis I had done, this was my suggestion to any paddler of front-mid pack or rearwards. Particularly as the start is so crucial to finishing position.
