Coming out of the closet...
« on: May 14, 2017, 03:12:55 PM »
After a job change, a huge schedule change, I couldn't surf almost at all, or exercise much.

Gained 20lbs or so...and not so suddenly all my custom Infinity boards in their volumes and dimensions...I just couldn't have as much fun.

With a much smaller disposable income lately, ordering a new custom isn't in the cards right now.

Found an almost new Naish Hokua X32 that I think we'll keep me surfing until I can order a new blade from the Infinity.

Fingers crossed that it surfs as well and gives me the stability I was after.

Forgive me, Dave!

Gee, sorry to hear that.  When you were a regular contributor and I was first learning, I soaked up your posts from the perspective of a larger guy on smaller boards.

I can do this now because I am retired, but with the hectic day to day of making a living, getting out must be hard if you aren't right on the beach.

Yeah, I'm lucky for 1 session a month now vs 5 a week. Glad I could provide some useful insight.

No apologies necessary, Giant. I don't remember what coast you are on, but either go borrow the Foote 10'4" X 34" Triton from Bob (assuming you can pry his fingers off it), or if left coast, come by and get mine, and find out how fricken cool a big board can be. I just flat out can't get off the thing. I have lots of other choices, but I'm constantly making up reasons why it's OK to use the BigFoote. It just rips, and it makes me look good.

Bill might have some, and he can ship them pretty much worldwide for not much money. It's the only big board I've ever found that delivers real performance.

Just before we left So Cal this winter I surfed a pretty big but messy day when I was having some major league balance problems--probably the precursor to my double vision episode. I was staggering around the board, catching out of control turns at the last minute. From my viewpoint, I was surfing as if I were drunk, but I wasn't falling. The board was saving my ass. Must have looked better from the shore because everyone came by to compliment me on my radical turns! I spent the whole session staggering from rail to rail like Foster Brooks.

Enjoy the new stick and stoke.

The surf train is easy to fall off of and a relief to be back on.

Hi Bill, thanks for the lead. I'm in SoCal. We've met at Dog Patch, but my memory could be worse than yours.

Thanks for the heads up on the Triton.

Hey Eric. Join the club! Kids, work, work......and getting older. Bet those prone short boards are collecting some dust. I'm trying to eating 1/2 what I normally eat. Salads only for lunch. Slowly losing weight. Paddling distance, even just laps in the harbor whenever I can squeeze them in. Good to hear from you dude!
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.
