Not a SUP - Kronos Longboard
« on: February 11, 2017, 01:10:49 PM »
OK, this isn't a SUP (but you know I'm going to try to stand up on it!).....

Over the years, my friends have had a lot of success with longboards designed for bigger guys like the Infinity Secret Weapon and the Walden Mega Magic. The extra volume in those boards increased wave count and upped the fun. And more waves lead to faster progression. Taking that idea, I approached Kronos asking if he could shape a board that would be user-friendly and right-sized for my wife to learn on. The result is this 8'8 x 23, 78 L longboard coming in at just 10 lbs.

Excited by the idea of a custom board for Mom, my daughter drew up a color pattern and we sent it over to see if it was doable. The construction method used here is great to maximize strength and reduce weight, but it doesn't lend itself to adding color like traditional methods. But they said they'd give it a shot, and I think they did a great job. My daughter is stoked.

Looks great.  I'd love to try to stand up surf on it.  I previously considered getting a 9' x 23" x 3" x 79L Degree33 longboard to see how it would SUP but never pulled the trigger.   Let us know how it goes.

I like how the magic marker scrawls came out in the final design. Really nice.

This one is 8'8 x 23, 78 L.  I took it out on some flat water yesterday.  It was do-able, but pretty twitchy.  It's not just the dims that make it challenging, but the distribution of foam--quite a bit less in the tail than if the same size was made for a SUP.  But still, it was kind of fun to try.  I'll have to give it a go in some waves at some point.
