It's a stormy mess in SoCal, but we need it!
« on: January 20, 2017, 02:15:40 PM »
Welcome rain and snow. Plenty of surf to come, just not this week.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

I hear ya, TD.  It's ugly out here right now, but this should kick up some nice, short-period, west swell.

Yup, leaning out the garage and getting ready for a new board project. Not much else to do.

Very big up here in Santa Cruz before dark today.

Stormy but surprisingly surfable. Rivermouth is breaking just like the old days.

Funny thing is TD, our UK brethren would probably call that day fair to good.  Definitely our great lakes friends.

What we need now are some nice coastal temblors to shear off all the waterlogged parts.

What a crap year to decide to spend it in SoCal. the only thing I can say in favor is Hood River and Portland sucks a lot worse right now. We're in a nice rental house in Del Mar for the week--to get closer to the beach and hang with some friends who are here for a few days.

Beach? Really?? Double overhead shorebreak and 30 MPH wind. Not to mention the hailstorms. The place we rented has big folding glass doors that face the ocean, and I've been like the little dutch boy with my trusty mop, holding back the water rolling under the doors.

Nothing in SoCal was built for his. At least there's a fireplace. I'm spending the day working on my retirement book. I also baked some bread and I'm making my Mom's killer Italian Pork, which I'm sure no Italian would recognize, but would certainly eat without complaint. Having our friend Lese over for dinner. The bread is fricken' awesome. I'm a hell of a good cook.

Here's the pork: Layers of roasted peppers, carrots, roasted potatoes and pork tenderloin with Roma tomatoes on top.

And the bread. My recipe for french bread done as rolls with three kinds of cheese between the rolls and underneath as a crust. You might notice I sampled a bit. Had to make sure it was OK.

If you're around Del Mar and you're hungry, give a shout. As usual, I cooked enough for twelve and there's three of us--plus the dog. He's been a  big help:

Yes, that's the puppy that I could hold in one hand a few weeks ago. He's about 2/3rds of the size he'll be. He still thinks he's a puppy and should be able to sit in your lap--even though he hangs off on both ends.

The girls are about conked out from the food. Carb overload. They ate half the bread.

That's a cute looking pup. Brittany?

At least it's gonna be a great ski season.

Yup.

I'm not giving up on surfing. Wednesday looks like we might get a break, though I plan to do some scouting tomorrow early. Might be some surfable stuff. The pics of La Jolla Shores made me wish I'd tried there. I didn't think it would hold much size. Those waves looked tasty. It would be better if I had an impact vest with me, but my new waist leash/floatation might get some testing.
