The Flu Sucks
« on: January 16, 2017, 10:27:07 AM »
Although I get a large sampling of lesser virii, I haven't had a full bodied flu in a while.

No, I did not make it in to get the flu shot this year, which I usually do.

Aches, fever, it's painful to put on a shirt with the galvanic electrocutions, cough that feels like a knife in the chest, tossing and turning un-restful sleep with morbid dreams. Either freezing or boiling, but nothing inbetween  It's now shifting to my sinuses with wracking, painful cough and sneezing.

Three days of acute symptoms, barely seems like it is getting better, but at least I am past the pneumonia stage.

Waited through the rains to go surf, now there's surf and I can hardly walk.

Oh well, maybe next week, at least I got a nice day last week.

Given the choice of contracting the flue or getting bit by a brown recluse spider, which happened to me last summer of 2016 and which took "two months" to heal, I'll take the flu any day over a brown recluse spider bite.  ;)

Welcome to the world of the shitty immune system. I get every bug that comes around. Always have, seems to be getting tougher as I get older. Feeling young and shitty is easier than old and shitty I guess... ;). Worst for me is that everything ends up in my chest...pretty sure it will be my lungs that kill me.

Which is why I love it when my local drug store asks, "Do you want a flu shot with that?"  Like it's a side of fries. But it works.  8)

I got the flu shot, the second, supposedly better one, and I still got gnarly flu.  Fever, congestion, bubbling in the lungs, agony-level headaches, plus everything else you describe.  Worst I've been sick in 15 years.  Missed 6 days of work and two weekends, just barely feeling like going back to work tomorrow.  Cheat, I feel your pain.

You just have to look on the bright side. ;D  Once you get the flu, it will run it's course and last about "one week". One week for the misery of the flu versus eight weeks of a flesh eating spider bite wound. It's a no brainer for me since I've already been in both places. ;)

I have not had for many years but swell remember the misery -Sorry to hear Cheat and Zoo- but it typically strips pounds no late night TV commercial can match.

When you get old enough - be sure to get the pneumonia series.

Get well soon! Nothing worse than compromised health.

As a kid I regularly got pneumonia. As a binge drinking teen I got sick often. As an adult alcoholic I was alway sick. As a sober adult (8 yrs) my wife whom has never seen me drink says "how come you never get sick?"

Ive never had a flu shot.

Happy to report my immune system has never been stronger at 41 with more stress and less quality sleep than ever before.

That said, whenever I do feel like a cold is coming on I drink the EmergenC and take in probiotics when I feel a stomach bug might be kicking in. That handles it just fine for me.

btw - I got a spider bite one time. Likely a brown recluse. My elbow swelled up for a few weeks and the bone was sore as hell for a couple months. Probably should've seen a doctor.

To add bullshit to misery, my wife has caught this, too.  I have probably had a hundred to a hundred fifty virrii and colds over our 36 year marriage. However, she is blissfully free and seldom has even small symptoms.

We are sitting around like a couple of sad sack, coughing lumps now.  It is strange to see her sick at all.

I am walking on the moon at about a third of my usual speed, and everything on my body hurts, old injuries, skin, joints etc. along with periodic, drenching sweats.  I slept in my clothes last night because it hurt too much to take them off.

Oh, yeah, Zoo, headaches. I also haven’t had anything like this for while.  I was sick a couple of years ago for about eight weeks with some unspecified virus or series of virrii, so I hope this isn’t that bad.

Freetobeme, I haven’t drank alcohol for over a quarter of a century, but it didn’t seem to help my immune system a lot, but I am sure that it would be worse than it is. Alcohol is basically a water soluble, metabolic poison. It’s also a serious inflammatory agent, very bad for bones and joints. It’s bad shit that people want to think is medicine because it makes them feel silly.

I did have a spider bite once that left a nice crater of necrosis on my leg.  It took a long time to heal, but otherwise didn’t make me feel sick.

Oh, well, thanks for the good wishes and self pitying rant over.
