Night Wing as with all/most problems there is/are solutions

Since we are talking about a custom
As far as fin set ups
They can add Quads  instead of 2+1 fin set up

As far as  lift handles...
They can not add one and you can get any handle you want

As far as the Dome Deck...
Again custom it can be as flat or even convex (ie the Shroom) as you like. Keeping the volume you want with the dimensions you requested

So problem solved give me a call 484 515 5758

Aloha
JimK

I don't think these changes will effect pricing significantly

@JimK

I've got an open mind so I'll keep the Sunova line of sups in mind with regards to a custom sup. BTW, No matter what sup I eventually choose, I will most likely go with a carbon setup. I like the lightweight of carbon since some of the places I paddle, it's a long walk from my vehicle to the water. Sometimes as long as 125 yards or more.

Right now, I'm just gathering information on sups which fit my parameters.
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

If there are any lurkers out there following this topic thread, this info might be useful.

Tropical Blends is headquartered in Hawaii. But with some more digging on the internet on my part, I found a Tropical Blends dealer/distributor located in California. The name of the dealer/distributor is NeverBoard Inc. The link to them is below.

Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)

Thanks for "headsup" on the info. It's much appreciated by me if and when I might need to ask some questions such as.......I see an air vent on the Kane. With that said, does the air vent have a gore-tex membrane? I'm assuming it does, but it is always good to ask.

I've been marveling at some of your excellent repair work on the Boardworks topic in the Shape Shack forum. Concerning the Triple Blends brand of boards, I had never heard or seen any of their line of boards before which got me to wondering just how good is the durability of their boards they build. I found this nice short video and it looks like it was taken from a cell phone, which answers my question. In the video below, a Triple Blends board was run over by a truck in a parking lot.

From viewing the video, I was "definitely impressed"..........just like I am highly impressed with your repair work.

...snippity...

Based on the parameters I've set, it is hard to find a production made board for me. I know I can get Warren (WarDog) of SUP Sports to make a custom board (within reason) based on my parameters. So one of my choices is his production made Mahalo Shaka which is 10'x30"x4.4" @ 160 liters. Now comes the "within reason" part. I've been thinking of a custom built Mahalo Shaka with the specs of 10'6"x30"x4" but I don't know the liters of volume. I'm guessing adding 6" in length of the production made Shaka, that should add at least 6 more liters of volume so the custom Maholo Shaka I'm thinking on would be around 166 liters. By dropping the thickness from 4.4" to 4", that should drop the volume by 8 liters (guessing again). So 166 volumes of liters minus 8 volumes of liters gives me a "ball park" figure of 158  liters for a custom built Mahalo Shaka 10'6"x30"x4" with a quad + 1 fin setup.

Aloha Night Wing,
Pretty remarkable ball park volumetric guesstimate there...
My Mahalo at 10'6" x 30" x 4.2" actually comes in at 158.09 liters...at 4" thickness it nets out at 150.79 liters...;-)

WarDog,

I had to look at all of your standard production Mahalo lengths and widths to get a general idea what a 10'6"x30"x4" would be in liters since a 10'6"x30" Mahalo is not in your lineup for a production made Mahalo. My guess was not too far off considering I don't have a software program like you do when you design your boards with regards to lengths, widths, thickness and liters. I do like the 158 liters of your custom 10'6"x30"x4.2" Mahalo.

By the way, I've seen all of your videos on your site. I figured Deb was riding the 10' Mahalo Shaka because it looked a narrow for it's length.

Your custom Mahalo 10'6"x30"x4.2" @ 158 liters is so very close to the old (before 2017 model) Starboard Drive 10'5"x30"x4.1" @ 156 liters. The old Drive was what I was basing my parameters on for my second sup if I do get another sup.

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, what does your custom Mahalo 10'6" weigh if it is all carbon?

Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters

Aloha Night Wing,
An all carbon USA built custom quad + 1 board at that volume would be in the 17.X# range naked...
We just built these hybrid carbon (carbon decks/rails...S-glass bottoms) stock 9'6" x 32" Stoke Wides at 165 liters and they are 18.4#...

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2017/01/carbon-stoke-2.html

Not exactly the precise dims that you are after...that would be the custom in discussion...but, our skinniest production Mahalo is 10'3" x 29.75" x 4.4" @ 165 liters...we have them in brushed carbon...green, blue, or pink...;-)

This board is very versatile...from big wave riders in the Pacific Northwest...to wahine paddlers on lakes from Idaho to bays in the BVI's...etc...

Here’s a testimonial from one of our East Texas lake clients who picked up a Mahalo…

8/22/13
Subject: Mahalo

Hey you guys:
I just wanted to let you know the Mahalo arrived yesterday morning safe, sound and without a scratch on her…..

I took her out for a spin this morning, and man I gotta tell you the lake was crowded….no not really…at first light there was only me out (that’s why I love East Texas)….

But I gotta say I wasn’t expecting the Mahalo to be so fast and easy to paddle.

What an amazing board and beautiful too.

Miles of smiles is right. You really hit one out of the park with the Mahalo Wardog.

Thanks for everything…..as usual the service and Aloha you guys share with your customers is beyond compare (Thanks Dave).

Peace and good waves….

Robert Townsend (Tyler, TX)

FWIW...I took these comparison pics of our two narrowest production Mahalos (29.75" & 31") next to the original Starboard Drive back in 2011...

@WarDog

Thanks for the pictures for comparison's sake between your Mahalos and the original Starboard Drive. I've saved these pictures to my Pictures folder (and also on a few of my thumb/flash drives just in case my linux Mint hard drive suddenly and totally fails) for future reference.

^ night
just ask wardog anytime you lose them.

Backing up is good. Smarter is to back up the stuff you can't just look up easily.

seen the nice double leash plugs?

Whoa dude, you're way over thinking the whole new SUP thing.  You've got one thing right.  Anything over 30" wide is just too much.  Sure, some boards may not be super stable at 30", but most will be stable tables at your size.

I can only guess your looking for a compromise board that will surf, but paddle well in flat water.  Forget the quad, a single fin in a standard 2+1 setup is the only way to go for any flat water paddling  Side fins only cause drag and quads will only drag and yaw.  I like quads too, but it's basically pointless on a big compromise board.

The Drive is way too big, take a look at the 9'8" x 30" Element as a much better all-rounder at your size.  It will paddle flat water just as well as the Drive and will be much more manageable in the surf.  Longer surf style boards may paddle a bit better on the flats, but will surf like the super tankers that they are.  If you want fast on the flats, better think race board.

Lastly, forget getting a custom board.  There are plenty of production boards that will suit your needs.

I was considering the 9'8 Element for myself, as an extra stable board for those super rough overhead days where I'm unable to stand on my 8'10 Flow. I'd say it's a good all around board. A little on the short side for me as a flatwater board but it would do the job.

All those opinions are contingent on the rider's balance, the conditions, their preferences and a host of other factors that make broad generalizations like those often inaccurate.
