South Beach Fl Downwinder
« on: January 13, 2017, 05:11:14 AM »
Downwinder from this past Sunday in Miami. We rarely get straight N winds. But this was the day. The temps were around 55 but water was warm in the upper 70s. Wind was about 25-30 with the swell at 9ft @ 8sec. Great times.

This is great. I am in Jacksonville, FL and have been wanting to get into this. When you have a straight North wind, can you actually downwind parallel to the coast? Or do you have to ride somewhat at an angle to the coast and make your way back out?

Nice video. Really enjoyed watching it. Looks like you had some really good waves to downwind on.

BTW, the upper garment you were wearing. That is not a PDF is it? If it is a PFD, I want one.

Great conditions there! And good use of multiple POVs using one GP. I love seeing vids from different places, and different wind directions in the same places. Looks like you had that Bullet V2 flying.

Looks like an O'Neill Gooru impact vest, or another O'Neill model very similar to it. Excellent piece of kit for downwinding or big wave surfing.

Yes you can do it parallel to the coast

Nigth Wing, this is O'neil impact vest - gives enough floatation in case you loose a board. Much better than a regular PFD. I started to put one on when things get rough. I do also encourage having an inflatable PFD just in case.

Wow, 9' swell, did you guys go inlet to inlet or did you do a beach landing?

We started at inlet and beach landing fighting those monster breaking waves. That is the worst part of it.

Looked like fun out there.  :)

The Bullet 14V2 has such a distinctive sound slamming over the waves.  The big concave kinda echoes the splash.  First thing I always notice that about that board when I use mine.  So familiar and comfortable sounding.

Nice run. Good to see you finding new places to downwind. Still, you and Sveta need to come back to Maui. You both have some unfinished business on the north shore. A big Maliko.

Bill, Sveta wants to move to Maui. Surf is on her mind :) I was playing with this wild idea of doing Maui to Molokai. Hopefully I can get to it, lots of logistics in terms of finding the crew.
