Pipeline / pursuit elite ss 12 6 opinions????
« on: January 03, 2017, 01:26:51 PM »
I saw this board online then checked it out locally. 6 oz carbon innegra w/4oz fiberglass over that. Lift sup handle, tie downs on front single concave bottom, slightly sunken deck,275 ltr, grafics are kinda sketchy, extra layer of fiberglass in standing area. Overall I like the shape and it would be good for me for a performance/ touring board but don't know anything about the build quality. I was hoping someone could give me an opinion. I have an Eradicator 14 but too tippy for a casual paddle and choppy conditions. I'm also considering a Hobie 12 6 elite. Thanks

Pipeline looks like hundreds of other generic China pop-outs. I have a 14' Hobie elite and my brother has the 12'6. They are more of a touring board than a race board. Very durable and fairly light. Probably lighter than your SurfTech. Hope that helps.

I send Tall Dude

I have no dealings with Hobie but a known quantity will be a better purchase in the long run

I owned (and paddled  : ) a 12'6" Hobie Elite and can attest to it's being a nicely designed and constructed board.  ....And you get all that good Hobie mojo.

I've paddled the 12'6 on a number of distance paddles, but at 245 lbs I'm hardly one to judge the performance of any 12'6 touring or race board. The Hobie elites have a little more rocker than the racing ones. Better in the open ocean, a little slower in the flats. That's the way my 14' Elite is. Rocker adds to the stability too. Here's a video on the board. Lots of goodies that are well thought out.

Thanks for all the replys.  I saw a couple of Hobie elite 12 6 in the bcx +c construction @28lbs for sale. They interest me (IM 6'1 and 205/90kg) but I think they are 3-4 years old. Does an older/ new board loose integrity after a while? I like the 14 too but would rather have the flatter rocker. I'm not planning on any downwinders or any races, just wanted a faster touring board to handle choppy conditions when they arise. Thanks

If they're new in the box or even a couple of years old out of the box, you should expect them to last. They would have to be damaged and take on water for there to be any issues. The older models probably don't have some of the locking handle and tie-down options, but the design is the same. Good boards.
