Thanks for the extra pics and detail, Creek. Now I see how it all comes together to keep you dry and warm even after a fall. Must be nice to get out there when it's glassy and deserted on a winter day!

Thanks Creek!

Inspirational, good advice and beautiful winter paddling. Looking forward to getting out on the water next week. It has been unusually cold here on the west coast of Canada for the past month. I think it is the longest stretch of snow on the ground on record (over a month now). Very weird.

Cheers

Kinda do something similar.  Waterproof neoprene boots - 2 layers of wool socks - ski gloves - toque - but swapped from wet to a dry suit now.  Is the best feeling getting out on the water while everyone stays ashore.  So serene and peaceful out there.  They have no clue how much fun they are missing.  Haha!  ;)

Cold hands and feet.  Spot on. My hands even go numb in 7mm mitts when I flatwater paddle in the winter.

The ski gloves idea may be a game changer for me.   I'll give it a try. Thanks.

And I'll trade 50 degrees of temperature for no greenheads.

I tried the tip with the ski gloves and it worked perfectly.
It was -7 C and a strong wind. So I have warm feet and hands now.

On the topic of winter paddling. Do the gortex pressure regulating valves work in freezing temperatures? The temperature differential between inside the house and outside is large. Or is this not the same concern with high summer temps? I have noticed that the tires on my cart get quite flat in subzero C temps and yet are full inside the house. Then I started to worry about the board and not being able to rinse it after paddling in the winter and is the pressure regulating valve functional.

Hi Bob.... I leave all my boards in my van. Outside. Gets very cold.... like single digits and I have never had a problem with any gortex valve on any Sunova so far. I don't rinse with fresh water, so only salt water is on the valve.

Cold today.Paddled a few hours. Gonna be 13 tonight.
