Jimmy Lewis Rail Downwind vid
« on: December 29, 2016, 12:23:44 PM »
The Rail is a board that I liked from the very first day. I know the M-14,it works really well on our downwind runs and I was sure that the Rail would be even better. And I was right. Today it was my first run on the Rail and the wind was howling. Gusts up to 45 knots and the board was flying all the time. What an amazing board, I can’t describe how well it rides the bumps. It catches everything, it’s super responsive, predictable and a dream when I was on the tail. Unfortunately I used a new POV on the GoPro called Superview which makes the bumps even smaller than the normal view, it would be better if I had used the standard Wide view. Anyway, it was a great day and I am super happy with my purchase. I hope you like the vid.

Nice. Must be the 26.5". I believe that the 28" is not sold in EU.
You look very comfortable on it so no need to ask if it feels too narrow for big conditions :-)

Thanks. It''s the 26.5. The 28 is also available in EU.

Love the constant speed and low angle showing the water rushing past.. Your vids also show what most people should work towards.. Feet on the centerline of the board even if it is a thigh burner to hold that position..

That's downwinding all right. You can't beat a planing-style board when it's in the conditions it was designed for.

"It catches everything, it’s super responsive"  The 26.5 Rail looks like a nice DW board as these 2 aspects are really important.  Surf nose designs are my preference as well for DW.  And yeah Superview is good if you need all the vertical information -> otherwise normal is a lot better.  Where your mount is - the normal would probs fit you in the frame perfectly fine.  If you have the H5 with IS - the SV looks ok as it crops 10% or so anyways.  SW does have its drawbacks.  Just have to play around a bit to find out what works best.

Fantastic video - the Jimmy Lewis looks like a great board.  How stable is the board compared to a SIC V2 or Starboard Allstar? May have to consider getting a JL. Thanks for posting.

The constant speed was easily noticeable. I paid close attention of your foot work on the middle (centerline) of the board.

Great video. Thanks for sharing it.

bing - the Bullet is a very stable platform with its surf nose and big single concave.  The 2016 AS25 is a bit tippier initially with is cutting boof and triple concave.  However the AS secondary stability is very good.  The Bullet comes in only 27.25 vs the 2017 AS in 23 - 24.5 - 27 - and 28.  My preference is the Bullet for DW - and the AS25 for AW.  Guessing the Rail is less stable than the Bullet and more stable than the AS25.  I would probs get the Rail if I did not have the Bullet and M14 already.  The shape looks to ride predictable for DW.

Thank you bing, i am 1.85cm /80 kgs and i find it very stable. Very predictable board. The V2 is a bit more stable though.

Love the constant speed and low angle showing the water rushing past.. Your vids also show what most people should work towards.. Feet on the centerline of the board even if it is a thigh burner to hold that position..

DK. Awesome conditions. +1 on the constant speed. Keeping that up for long times is an art especially with the feet on the centerline. This all does get easier the more it is practiced, although personally my progress is shockingly slow.. ;D
