December Warmth
« on: December 28, 2016, 03:51:30 PM »
Beautiful day here in New Jersey on 12/27. Warmed up to an unseasonable 65F! Luckily there was swell and offshore winds too. The water's pretty cold now though around 42F. Hit the road for a break about an hour from my house. Scored on both longboard and sup. Thankfully everything went well, Zoners.
No SOLOSHOT since I kinda neglected to charge the thing. But I shot alot and so did some friends. Also managed to get a beauty of a frame from a pro photographer who was there.
There was one other guy on sup but I missed getting a shot of him. He was pretty good on a Starboard Converse. I did speak w/him and he said he's here on the Zone but very active. Stressed Mullet I believe is his user name.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Nice pic's Cookie. 75 deg. here too. Shoulder high and glassy today. Left at 8 this morning, just got of the water at 3:30pm. Ate a late lunch. My friend and I had nukes all to ourselves.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

One of the better days this (so far) winter I regret missing. No school and two sick kids kept me frothing on Surfline cams and bummed I missed out. Great shots SC!

One thing where I live in southeast Texas. If you don't like the weather or temperature, wait 5 minutes.  ;) Yesterday it was 82 degrees F, but today it's going to be 63 degrees F with early Friday morning's forecasted low temperature at 42 degrees F.

Atmosphere sounded toasty, but your balls must still have taken a hike into your throat when you hit the water.

I finally have a good ensemble for the "cold" conditions around Santa Cruz i.e. air in high 40's to low 50's and water temps above 50. Everything works from gloves to booties and I stay warm and uncramped for upwards of 2 hours before mild hypothermia starts to set in.

Yeah, it's Cali-weenie stuff compared to the East Coast, Britain, etc.  When air drops below 50 here, it is a pretty nice lineup clearance condition.  I am still surprised at the number of people who go barefoot and no gloves into all conditions.

ZOO, Tall, NJS, Winger, WhatSUP, Creek, and Cheat....you guys are stokers for checking out the kitchen for this post. It was a marvelous day of warmth and waves.
Going under in 42F water w/out a hood def is not the smartest thing to be doing. I did have my CVS silicone earplugs in though. Minor ice cream headaches were had. And after a coupla flushings you def hafta put the hood back on to gather heat.
Cheat- what Creek said about wetsuits. Def pays to get the good rubber here in NJ. I just added 7mm Excel Drylock booties to my cart. They were NOT cheap!
The crowd was moderate this day and my buddy who drove for that road trip said it was the most he'd ever seen at that spot, only like 12 at most during my go out.

Today in LA at one of my regular surf spots the air temp was 78F and the water around 55F. Wearing board shorts and rash guard no problem until you fall in. It was cold as fock!!

The shot of you on the sus is really a beauty.

And a second on that rubber comment.  I splurged on a top line ripcurl 4/3 and the warmth is amazing. The only excuse now is the mental hurdle from the cold, once in I'm fine.
