Downwind run on Christmas Eve
« on: December 26, 2016, 12:22:43 AM »
On Christmas Eve conditions were spot on for downwind run. The wind was blowing 25-30knots and the sun was out there making the weather perfect for a run in the middle of the winter. I jumped on the M-14 and I remembered how wicked this board it is. Happy holidays to all.

So good to see someone gliding on an M14..... quite different to your Coreban?

Thanks Coldsup. The M-14 is more stable and relaxed but a little slower in overall pace. Both turn very nice from the tail, giving you a super nice feeling when surfing a bump.

Yeah, I reckon it is a sound big boys board ....I am 90 kg plus wettie etc and a newbie at it so it is pretty much ideal. My pal has the more rockered version and me the flatter rockered one.

Yes, it's the perfect board for a big guy.

Great conditions, skilful riding, and a beautiful board.

Totally....today we have 50 to 60 mph winds.....long big bumps but it's so bloody cold I'd never chance that.....I don't have the skills, fitness for one thing but just too risky. Have to make do with downbreezers and a bit until it warms up a bit.

Great video dk! That M14 is such a classy looking board. I also LOVE the looks of your Coreban. What width is the Coreban? You have the Dart.... correct?

Not that I find it much warmer in summer where you are mind you.
respect!

[edit to add]
Just checked your temps. You got 2 deg more than here water and air. Sooooo doable. It's chilly when you start but you really don't get cold downwinding. Going with the wind makes it not very cold. I'd wear a 4/3 full wetsuit, have a hoody with me and a windbreaker around my waist.

Looks like the wind didn't show however.

BTW, FYI: yesterday spaced and forgot my drysuit. Just paddled dressed as I was, with booties  (softshell pants, wooly t shirt, driclime windbreaker). Flatwater however and didn't plan on falling in, and didn't. If I fell in I'd just need to paddle home in enthusiastic mode. I'd have been a bit chilly for a few minutes until water in my wet clothes warms up.  It really is far more doable than one imagines.
