Seattle - Ballard New Year's Day Paddling Race and Plunge 1/1/17

Join us for our first annual New Year's Day Paddling Race at the Ballard Elks. After the race join the Elks by cooling off from a Plunge in the Sound at 12:30pm Then warm up in the lodge after both events.

Hosted by Salmon Bay Paddle and the Ballard Elks Paddling Club. Prizes by Keala's Hawaiian Coffee.

We'll have two races, a 5 mile and 1.5m course. The 5 mile will follow the same course as the Halloween Race this year - Elks to West Point's green buoy, then around the red buoy below the Discovery Park cliffs - back around West Point then up Salmon Bay, then back to the Elks. Course may change per conditions. The 1.5m course will follow our summer courses inside the bay determining on condtions.

$20pp. Registration at event. Some will go to charity.

Who Should Come? All human powered paddling craft competent in open water paddling with possible wind and waves.
Required - PFD for ALL paddle craft. Leashes strongly suggested per conditions.

8:00am Registration Starts
9:15am Safety Meeting
9:30am 5m Race Start
9:35am 1.5m Race Start
11:30am Race End
12:00 - 1pm Ballard Elks Pledge or Plunge Event (no wetsuits)
1:30pm - Race Prizes and Warm-up in the Lodge

Volunteers Needed - Safety Boats (paddlers and motor boats), timing assistance; registration. Photographers welcome.
