Crawlin' In Nicaragua
« on: December 13, 2016, 03:06:11 PM »
Double post here...it's in General Discussion also.  8)
My first trip to Nicaragua is in the books! What an amazing week. Stayed in central Nic at a surf camp called SOLID from 12/3 to 12/11. Steps to the surf was a treat as was a consistent swell all week. No sup though and when I connected w/Creek and told him that he dubbed me "Crawler", which I had never heard before and made me lol! I shot over 100GB of raw vid and about 5 GB of hi res stills. So far I've been dragging getting everything edited and uploaded but here's a taste.
I went w/my wife on Spirit out of AC w/a short lay over in Fort Lauderdale. ($300 round trip plus one piece of shared/checked luggage for $60 also round trip). No boards packed because I rented at the camp. Nice stable they had too. I was a touch worried I wouldn't be able to prone it for a whole week but I managed quite a few good waves every day for the whole week. Lucky me!
They had a sup there but it was seriously THE worst sup in Nic! It was a molded plastic Lifestyle, "Freestyle" model. The same plastic your typical kayaks are made of. And to make matters worse it was missing both of it's generic plastic twin fins and one of the deck plugs so it took on water. It was near impossible to paddle straight. I only jumped on it the last day of trip because, well, I'm a sweeper!  :P
Links here to about 1/3 of the pictures I took. I still have to upload the shots I have from our trip to the city Leon, they are amazing.

These are the four boards I rode and the "Freestyle" sup.

9'0" Stewart- 6" trailer w/side bites

7'2" Rusty "Piranha"

6'4" T. Paterson "Power Pill"

7'2" "Iron Hammer" funshape set up as a twin w/the center fin of the thruster set missing (quite loose).

Sunsets were stunning!

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Seriously, that thing looks locked in the lip. Good for you for adapting and going along. Those do look like pretty good waves man. Do you think it would have been good on an SUP or too hollow?

I need to go prone in some decent waves, I only get out in our little rollers here and never really get into anything with some push. Inspiring shots man.

I couldn't catch anything. It kept veering off really bad.

That break woulda been amazing on a proper sup. I musta mind surfed a hundred empty outside peaks on mine!

Back now...lol on the lid. i guess you saw my post on loosing the old blue FCS cap. Yea, I scored a new one. Black, also scored an FCS bucket style. That thing came in handy for the beach walks. But I'm wearing a grey cap in these shots. Someone gave me a brand new one in Nic! The grey is nicer for the tropics.
