Footwear for Cold Weather
« on: December 07, 2016, 11:21:52 PM »
What do you guys like for cold weather booties. I wouldn't mind something like a high top soft soled shoe that I could wear wool socks with but no such animal seems to exist. Are all you cold weather paddlers wearing 5-7 mm wetsuit booties or is there something better out there. I hate those clammy ass things. :)

For warm booties I like Atan Hot Mistral 6.5mm (and I hate booties).

For a high top soft soled shoe I thought O’Neill used to have one but I only see a low top sneaker now.

Ultimately you want to be able to walk into the water and launch your board without getting water in the boot. As Creek has said many times in the past, the Neosport Explorer boot seems like the way to go.

I can rarely ( really: NEVER )  wear a calf-high boot.  I have small feet and MASSIVE LEGS. I have a size 9 foot with legs meant for size 16 or more. With Neoprene, could I glue in a big wedge of material in the back? I've cut and duck-taped extra material into regular boots with "success" - as in, they don't leak too badly.

Thanks I have the 3mm O'Neil high top but it's really more of an early fall shoe... I love it. I'll check out the Mistral thanks!

Awesome, thanks for the Neo sport idea, it looks like a great option for what I want. I especially loved the link in the directed post because when I clicked on it a "Dora the Explorer" Back pack shows up on Amazon.... made me laugh hard. Cheers!

There are links being added by "Viglink". Is this happening on the server?

If you hover over one of these links it shows its from Viglink. Totally random spam stuff they link to.

Yeah the Viglinks always link to something totally irrelevant to whatever the post is about.

I'm guessing the website gets paid a little something to have them here.

NRS boundary shoe, and Chota mukluks are also options on the high boot solution.

I recently tried the neosports but returned them because they don't fit me snugly.  Without an ankle strap,  they feel like they could get sucked right off my feet.  My heels and ankles are pretty narrow relative to my forefoot,  so they may just not be the right shape for me.

I'll probably end up ordering another pair of 7 mm hyperflex amp boots,  which have been warm and snug for me, if a little tough to dry.
