Golden milk-Turmeric drink
« on: December 02, 2016, 07:31:09 AM »
Been drinking this now everyday for the past few weeks and feel great. Can't say for sure if it's placebo or not, but seems worthwhile to share. Been using fresh turmeric for my version. Tried for the evening but cranks my system up too much before bed, mid-morning or afternoon seems to work best for me.

I've been making a tea with fresh turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon. I'm doing it for inflammation....seems to be helping a bit. Tastes really good too....just trurns everything yellow... ;). I just found out that the organic farm right down the street from my house has both turmeric and ginger in abundance.... :)

I know it’s supposed to be really good for you. Just be careful not to spill it  :(

A couple of years ago my wife was sick and asked me to make her some tumeric tea. I did so, but as I was coming up the last stair I tripped and spilled some of the tea. Luckily our floor was vinyl plank but it still took me a lot of scrubbing to remove the stain. Finally got it, but it wasn’t easy. I banned tumeric from our house after that.

I use Tumeric in cooking everyday.
The usual joints still ache.... maybe I'd be worse without it, I'll never know.
But it's organic and has good stuff in it... so I'll keep using it!

I've heard it takes a lot of turmeric to be effective.
Going to try this recipe and up the dose of turmeric and ginger.

Interesting post. From my understanding you need to ingest a small amount of black pepper with the turmeric. The piperin in the black pepper increases the bioavailability by several orders of magnitude (ie. 100-1000 times). Consequently the amount of turmeric that you need to ingest is not much to have an anti-inflammatory effect.

So for the last couple of years my right hip/leg has been giving me some pain. Doc says I need a hip replacement,  but I should wait until I can no longer do the things I need to do before having the surgery. So I take 3 ibuprofen generally every morning with breakfast...which helps with the pain. But in addition to that,  I have been doing specific exercises (aerobics) with resistance bands trying to strengthen all the muscles in my legs. In addition to my paddling,  I often walk at a fast pace (4mph) using bungee pole treking sticks. My leg and hip still hurt,  but not as bad as they have. In addition,  I have been adding tumeric to my meals as much as possible. I also have always enjoyed coarse ground black pepper and put it on just about everything. Actually I have been doing this for years just because I like it,  but now that I have heard that black pepper is really good for you I have been using it with abandon!  I hope to be able to surprise my doctor next year with evidence that all of my efforts have payed off and that hip surgery may never be necessary. After all,  my increased exercise (mostly standup paddling and fast walking) have negated the need for statins that he really said I needed to take for high cholesterol a number of years ago. Now my numbers are normal. So I am eager to see if upping my tumeric intake with aid in relieving the pain in my hip which I believe is probably due to inflamation. Time will tell.
