I wear shades (attached with floaties which slide up on the arms of the shades) when I'm flat water paddling. I don't wear shades when I'm sup surfing.

I wear shades almost always.  I have been getting them blasted off, or the lenses blasted out of them, so often, I pick up a bunch at Goodwill and keep them in reserve.  I don't like bonding with them because I know that in a few weeks they'll be gone.

Sometimes shades just aren't enough.  If you go paddling or windsurfing in the afternoon, on the west coast, this time of the year, this is what you see on the way out, and it hurts.  Especially with windsurfing, which we did the other day, we were sailing purely on faith, faith that we didn't hit a rock or a thick patch of kelp, the latter of which several of us did at full speed, w/o warning, it's not pretty.  We all came back in with headaches, not really recommended.

Does Rainex work on plastic lenses without destroying the plastic?

Never mind the sun, which can be bad enough, I just plain can't see shit without my prescription glasses. The friends I surf with are always like, "outside! See it?" ummm no, I don't see anything. A month or two ago I show up to this sweet little thigh-high peeler that was so clean and nice that I decided I was safe surfing it with my Maui Jim prescription sunglasses. It was like HD tv for my eyes. Holy crap what a difference. I was using a floaty croakie but I would never do that in any waves of consequence.

I never wear shades surfing. I remember that day, I put them back on while I was locking up my car and forgot to take them off. I had paddled a 1/2 mile down the beach when I realized I still had them on....and that they were my Maui Jims.....safe to say I was very careful not to lose them.

There is a seperate Rainex for plastic, but I've also gotten away with using the original formula.  Test first.

Hey Brother, I'm proud of you for keeping on keeping on in spite of occasional setbacks. I think some of the best days of my life are surfing with you. I certainly remember every one of them. Just like I remember spearing fish with you at Brant rock, and the hypothermia afterward. Good times. May we have many more.
