Pics off north maui today

Jeremy Riggs took these.  Full winter conditions with crossing N swell.  It was challenging but fun moments.

Went with PBill, Jeremy and Southbay on an OC-1.  Southbay has an awesome shot I'll get.

Tough day for me, I fell a bunch, Just head misalignment plus haberdashery challenges (socks, hat, etc.). I'll do better tomorrow.

Those are some nice photos. Look even better when they're enlarged. I sure do like that first photo with the oncoming white sup.

Just curious as always. Does anyone know what the make, model, length and width of that white sup?
Blue Planet Duke: 10'5" x 32" x 4.5" @ 190 Liters (2 Dukes)
Sup Sports Hammer: 8'11" x 31" x 4" @ 140 Liters
SUP Sports One World: 11'1" x 30" x 4.5" @ 173 Liters
CJ Nelson Parallax: 9'3" x 23 1/2" x 3 3/16" @ 78.8 Liters (prone surfing longboard; Thunderbolt Technologies build in Red construction)

What? He changes his hat and you're thrown off? Same guy, same shorts, same shirt sure looks like same board. At least it has the same side stickers.

Someone answered you.

Yeah, there were some pretty intimidating drops. My board kept rounding up a little whenever I'd take a big wave. I checked it out when I got home and discovered I bent the rudder shaft a little getting in the water. Didn't effect anything when I put a little steering input in, but it sticks momentarily when I steer hard. Mr. Boyum (SIC Bullet V1 17'4" X 26" Nightwind, and yeah, he's just got a different hat on) is laughing at me right now. He heard the rudder whack when I got in and gave me shit about it. Made for a tough run.

Everything needs to be pretty much as you are used to for a big Maliko run. You can get used to little things pretty quickly and compensate, but they cause a few falls and screw with your head. I started off with compression socks on. When I'd drop into a big bump or get hit by chop, my feet would move a little inside the socks. Not a big deal except when you're trying to manage a 17' board in a 20 foot swell. And once you start falling it's hard to stop--you have this "don't fall" recording playing in your head when you need to be thinking "whopee!". HM helped me get the damned socks off a mile off Sugar Beach in monster swell. That was festive. But then my hat (a stupid trucker thing I never wear) sat too low on my head so the brim hit the horizon. When I tried to stand back up I couldn't look forward. The hat joined the socks in my cargo net right about Upper Kanaha. The last mile was much better.

I felt like a newb at the end of the run. If I were tracking such things I'd guess I'm closing on my 500th Maliko run, so that sucks.

the odd thing is that my knee has been cooperating. No problems. It was doing terrible things on the Turks & Caicos trip, pitching me on my face in bottom turns or even just when I paddled hard going for a wave.

Today will be better. Fixed the rudder--check. Modified a good hat (short brim)--check. No socks--check. Good attitude--check.

Yep, it's all about the attitude.

... and how niggly setbacks can throw it way off.
