Supcheat's Boring Surf Vid
« on: November 12, 2016, 03:02:02 PM »
It's been a while since I did one of these so I figured my StandUpZone due diligence required one.  This is my first "mouth mount" effort with the camera dangling around my neck.  I had a bit of trouble getting used to it, since I'm not that great at multi tasking out there, anyway.  I got a couple of nominal waves, but didn't vid the best waves of the session, of which there were more than a handful.

Of course, conditions were fairly vigorous but he camera makes everything look pretty flat.  The first drop was pretty steep, but looks like nothing, and a lot of the waves look, as usual, like mud puddle ripples instead of waves.

Since I went to the trouble of getting the footage, I decided to publish it anyway.

Should have vid the couple on the beach doing their hippy pre-surf hoe down and yoga, it was kind of funny.

Hmm, think I fixed it.  It published private and I changed it to public.

Otherwise, great video.

The video looked real good in 720p in high definition. You should make more of them.

Nice to visit with you Carl, what a spot you've got there.  That's the problem with the mouth mount, get surprised by a wave and don't get the chance to install and miss the recording of said wave. Since you're already wearing a helmet why not mount the camer up there. Then you'll get it all.

I thought your video was far from boring. Next edit def do not put that word in the title. Great establishing sequence and I love that music. I always enjoy seeing what is going on at the beach at everyone's breaks. I'm guessing your first wave/takeoff was from a kneeling position? I recommend mixing up your pov w/a nose mount looking back. I know it's probably the most hated of the povs but it does show the wave, rider, board, and sky.  Nice to have both perspectives and after you get tired of fumbling w/the mouth mount the nose mount is a nice retreat since you don't hafta hang onto the cam. I almost always start out w/the paddle mount and switch to nose mount after about an hour.
Thanx for doing a vid. Now I don't have to try and picture your break and surfing from all your descriptive posts. Gnarly cliffs out there! Really nice edit, good creativity and storyline you put together here.  I've do sooo many vids at this point that I think my creative muscles are a bit tired!
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Hi, Cook,

Kneeling pop ups seem to be my forte.  I claim geezer privilege, it helps me to flip around fast and monitor the lineup better to minimize carnage. I can stand up fine as long as I am just cruising, but for some reason, multi tasking at surfing standing up, especially in crowded conditions, is still threatening to me.

I do all three pop ups.  I have to admit, I like stand up entries the best because they feel organic and harmonious with the water, but all three pop ups depending on circumstances (knee, stand up, prone) increase my wave count.

Since I am heavy, I don't have the entry ease of lighter dudes and since my current boards are on the shorter side, I need all the modalities I can get.

Love the tune. Man, there is one clip in there where you can really see that Speeed nose pop out of certain pearl.

How old do you need to be to claim geezer privilege?  Is there a sliding scale for injuries?  I just want to make sure I use everything I can at my disposal. ;-)

Since I started all this as a geezer, and I am getting more geezerly the longer I do it, than I claim double geezer privilege.

I first stood up on a wave in September three years ago at 63.  I'm pushing 67 in December.

Otherwise, YMMV.
