Finally got a 14' Bote Ahab

(1/1)

brycesail:
We started out with a cheap inflatable paddleboard,  then a yoga paddleboard, then a Bote Valhalla 14' carbon race board, and now a 14' Bote Ahab. I thought when I bought the race board that it would be my last board but it is so tippy and on as we go long distances on the Rainbow River the race board is to much work. The 14' Ahab is so stable and fast. I know what a lot of people say about large 14' boards but just go out and try one, the speed is addictive. We still have a some 12' boards and they are so slow that they stay in the garage most of the time. The Bote Ahab is 14' x 34" x  8" and is 45lbs. It can hold 500lbs and even though it's heavy because it's 14' long is keeps up with all the other boards on the Rainbow. I made a video of the new Ahab [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exWrHL1JWjI[img]

ForeverBlue232:
I have a Rackham I used on the Rainbow last summer.  And I'm thinking about getting the 14' Valhalla to start racing with.  Main reason being that while the Rackham is nice (especially for 4hr paddles in 90 degree heat like Rainbow or Weeki, because I can have my Yeti with me), the Rackham is just simply limited in speed because it is so wide (32") and has more drag. I entered one race last year with the Rackham, and I wore myself out trying to get speed out of it for the 2 mile race.  I only averaged 4mph with it.  But the Rackham is really stable and great for beginners or for touring/expedition/fishing, and the Ahab is a little more stable still.  I just wouldn't call it "fast".  It does beat other 34" wide boards with its nose though.

Badger:

What a beautiful warm place to paddle. Sitting here in NH with four inches of snow on the ground, I just wanted to dive right into that water.

It was a little frustrating to watch them switch sides every two or three strokes.  :)
