Heavy water? Kinda. After BOP Salt Creek my shins were bleeding, my toes were bleeding and I was bruised head to toe. My ego took the biggest beating.

Clay,

That was some great slow motion surf wave action in your video. Loved seeing it especially with those narrow sups.

Nice video Clay. Watching Connor and Kai get mowed is pretty interesting.

TD, I loved Salt Creek, but a lot of that was because of a lucky last minute switch to unlimited. We got a clean start in a big lull for the sprint race because we were first up and the lifeguards were spotting for the start. The second day wasn't so clean because they handed the start over to the knucklehead in the booth. When the lifeguards called the lull the moron went on for a good thirty seconds saying stuff like "Ayre you ready Unlimited class?". Launched us into a set. The result, Tom English had a busted board, Doc Danger and I got denied and had to restart with the 14s. Cable came off my rudder and I had to do a quick fix. Lost my kelp guard so I had to jump off every few minutes and pull the salad bar off the rudder. Still, it was whacky fun, and I loved coming in through that pumping surf. I was doing great until the lifeguards told me I was headed for the rocks. My big bottom turn didn't work out all that well and I went up the face sideways. And then over, and over, and over. Like you, I had a fine collection of bruises, but I would have done it again if there was another.

Awesome action Clay. Looking forward to the longer edit.

Red Bull had a chopper there to film so I am something will be forthcoming.

I thought part of the reason for a tour like this is to make the sport bigger. If that is the case, then why not do atleast a modicum of press, and immediate information?

FINALLY there is something from the waterman league. Finally.

I don't think Red Bull is in it to make any sport bigger. It's just great content generator to feed their marketing machine.

Not Red Bull, Waterman league. If they do not want to grow the sport and audience, then why do a tour at all.

Same thing I think with Waterman League. They like to create SUP porn much like the ski/snowboard porn movies that come out every winter. Showcase the elite doing what 99% of the people could only dream of. Helps keep people already in it stoked on the sport but not sure if it helps much with growth. Certainly if exposure is the goal they're (WL) not doing a good job of it...yet.

Yeah it could be growing pains, but there seems to be a somewhat wrong focus. I mean in terms of how hard it is to do something updating a webpage / social media channels is pretty much as easy as it gets, yet the impact of letting people know what is going on is huge. So looking at cost benefit to doing that would suggest keeping people informed is a good thing and should be prioritized.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but for being such a chicken myself, I just cackle like a sadist when I see the carnage, and Salt Creek 2104 is one of my faves. I know it's dangerous and destructive, but I can't help myself.

Maybe it's because nobody actually seems to get mad at each other.

I'm right there with you!  This is one of my favorites from Salt Creek.  Kai in the lead in the #1 jersey and the whole world is coming at him

haha I bet it is because you know how much fun it is to go nuts every now and then.

The start was insane. The first wave wiped pretty much everyone but the 3 top ones. The fact that they kept their shit together and broke through is amazing to me. The leaders had paddled the down beach stretch and surfed in before the last person who didn't give up were off the beach. In my mind kudos to the guy who did not give up...but I doubt he could that twice more after heading to the beach.
