2016 JP 8'2" Surf Pro vs 2017 JP 8'1" Surf Pro

       OK, more than a few folks have asked me the difference between the 2016 8'2" Surf Pro and the 2017 8'1" Surf Pro.  The 8'1" has replaced the 8'2" for the 2017 line, and there are some changes:
 2016 8'2"x28 101 liters
 2017 8'1"x28 103 liters

      Although the boards are similar, the most obvious change is in the tail.  The tail is thinned out, but the squash tail is a bit wider corner to corner.  That's not to say it is wide, it isn't.  The 2 added liter seem to be added in thickness in the middle of the nose area.
      I've had the new 8'1" out side by side with the old 8'2", but only a couple of time, and only in waist to chest high conditions.  My initial impressions are that the new board is a bit more stable, probably due to the wider, squash tail. The new board also feels a bit faster, and "rippier" in smaller waves, probably also to do with the squash tail. I'll have to have a bit of time and a variety of waves before I learn how the new board's traits work in all conditions, but right now, I'm liking it more than the old 8'2" Surf Pro.
      Color, JP's new line has a new color scheme. A little less "Zowie" with some darker, calmer colors. There are also some new boards and re-vamped boards. Here is a list of the new, or re-vamped surf boards for 2017:
