A mini video review and my thoughts on the GoPro Hero5 Session camera.  Also I talk a bit about the expectations and desire for new tech and the reality of how we feel after we get it.  I swapped out the original GoPro session for this new one and gave it go on my bamboo SUP surfboard mounted elevated pole.  I am impressed, as the camera looks and sounds better with more image capturing horsepower in it.  Feeling stoked!  I am looking forward to capturing many adventures this fall and winter.

Also this is my second public go at narration.  I you enjoy.  Thanks

Such a cool video. There are many reasons I love this forum, but videos like yours are by far the main reason. You are valued.

Right on.  My Session 4 ended up at the bottom of the ocean the day before the Session 5 was released.  How serendipitous!  I plan on picking up a Session 5 as soon as my shoulder surgery recovery is over.

Do you notice the image stabilization?  Did you shoot that vid in your link in 4k and downgrade on upload to 1080?

Awesome review and footage Clay.  I have the GoPro Here 5 Black, but yet to get the right conditions to use it. Seems that the improvements over the original Session mean that this wee camera is all you'll ever need!

Very cool clay!

Nice clear, stable shots
I like the idea of "No Fog"... it happens everytime I wear my "Headband Mount" after about 45 minutes.

Very helpful video.  Timely for me as I took a kickstarter gamble on a Mokacam. Been playing with it lately and it's got some really neat features, but my final verdict is:  get a Hero Session 5.  Thought it'd be fun to support the little guy but you just can't touch the features and operation of the GoPro.

Yeah, nice one again, Clay.

You have a future in surf narration.

I laughed watching you try to "flutter" your paddle closer, just to fall off to grab it.

I enjoyed watching your latest video. Your new camera takes great streaming video. And your narrative within the video was a special treat. I like your thoughts.

BTW, I like your photo so I "poached it" to see if it would make a good Desktop photo..............and it did.  :)

Thanks for sharing your video and the photo.

SupPadre - Wow what great feedback, I appreciate your words very much.  Thanks!

NorthJerzSurfer - Thanks!  I enjoy making and posting them too.

surfafrica - Thanks! and sorry to hear about your loss, I have given a few + to the ocean and it's a bummer.  Glad to hear you see the serendipity  :)
I shot in the 1080x90 mode and have yet to try the 4k patch stabilization.  I can see that being really useful for drone footage, I suspect I would rather shoot 4k and do any stabilization in editing or let youtube stabilize it for me.

Off-Shore - Thanks Robert!  Right on, I look forward to seeing your awesome videos.  I had the session 5 for a whole week before I had an opportunity to use it  :D

Bulky - Thanks!  Glad it was helpful.

SUPcheat - Right on. Thanks Carl I appreciate the vote of confidence.  I had a good laugh myself trying to chase after that paddle.  ;D

Night Wing - Thanks a bunch.  Glad the photo works for you.  Your welcome!

Here's a side-by-side showing the stabilization at work on the Black5.

Stokin', Clay dude! I've been waiting for the Hero5...the wait is over. I love the narration and your descrip of our perception of technology. The famous thing is kinda true but I just dig how we can share our experiences easily in this modern age. I still wanna see some beach footage of you riding w/the Clay mount! Nice vid and great conditions you scored.
I'm still rocking the Hero4 cinder block! Struggle to get the shot!

supthecreek - Thanks!  Yeah fogging is quite a hassle, I'm a huge fan on the caseless design.

surfercook - Thanks and right on!  Nice shots!  Yeah I'm working the beach footage, might come via drone...

Stumbled on your "Thankful" video and couldn't help noticing the newer "Board pole mount" which is looking like only one pole extension as opposed to the tripod type you started out with. It looks much easier to mount and then maneuver with. Also I noticed you mount your paddle cam much farther towards handle than me. That def is going to help with swing weight but I would imagine doesn't flatter the view. Probably harder to get that tube shot like that.

Yes, thanks for sharing that. I especially liked the underwater ending coda...

I've been to your ClayIsland site before, but hadn't noticed the "best cinematographer" award.... very cool... and if that's new, congrats.
