Good luck I hope it works for you. That's a really small board! These sups have a high build cost and it's a drag to do one that will just sit in the racks. Hopefully you'll dig it!
Boards:

8-10 x 31 Egg
8-11 X 32 Double wing Fangtail Tom Whitaker
8-6 X 30 1\2  Inbetweener Tom Whitaker
8-4 x 30 Hyper quad Tom Whitaker (wife's now)
8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker
9-4 X 30 1\2. Swallow Stinger Quad Tom Whitaker (ex wifes now)

Thanks.  I wanted to push the limits a little bit, we'll see how it goes.  The sum of 12" and 24" widths at nose and tail are 4.3% wider than on my 84L board so I think (hope) that will help offset the 5% drop in volume.

Just remember volume is only 1 dimension to consider....
The fact that you've been riding a board with 84L is a good indication that you can handle it

Picked up the board today.  The black resin tint looks more dark purple in the sun but I think it came out good.  Board weighs less than 10lbs.   Added some traction, put in the HS2 thruster fin set (my current fave) and it's ready to roll :-)

Thanks for the comments.  Here's my initial feedback on the board:

Very stable.  It's more stable than my 84L board (6-10 x 27).  This was a pleasant surprise.    I should have gone smaller :-)

Surfs amazing, really fun.  The rounded pin tail, short length and light weight (10lbs) make it super easy to throw around and do tight turns.   It is also fun to step up the board a bit and trim which something I don't much do on my other boards.    I am looking forward to spending more time on this board and getting it dialed in.   Added bonus: I think it might be faster than my 6-10 which is the fastest board I have owned.  I need more session data to confirm this.

Negatives?  It takes more effort to paddle than my 84L board.  This was expected due to lower volume but I was surprised by how noticeable the difference is.  I think the length, outline shape and volume distribution are big contributing factors.

This seems a really good deal:o I think i almost had the same cost on my board, knowing that I had to do al the "labour" (loving it so not the right term in fact :) ) myself. You do 4 layers of 4oz on the bottom and an extra 6oz patch on the deck if I understand well? This seems quite beefed up no?

Total cost is $620 for finished board.  That includes:

Marco 1.5# EPS blank
CNC cut w/ high res option
Base glassing (4x4/4) w/ extra top and bottom layers, top color and cut laps, standard sanded finish
5 fin Futures boxes
FCS handle with vent

I could have cut $100 from the final cost if I did my own paint/color.   Options like carbon or gloss finish would be extra.  Your blank and glassing cost will increase with board size (this is a 6'4" board).

To clarify I went with 2 layers 4oz on top + 6oz deck patch.  Bottom is 2 layers 4oz.

Some glassers use 4x4 to designate two 4 oz layers.  It is misleading, sorry for any confusion.

If you are ever down in south OC you are welcome to try it.  Maybe you can buy it from me when I sell it :-)  I am blown away by how stable this board is.  I can stand in the line up without my paddle in the water for extended periods.   It surfs amazing, I haven't been this excited about a board in a while and am already thinking of things I would change for v2.

Based on my before and after sanding blank weight it looks like I'll lose 1.5L of volume (I lost 1oz during sanding, approx 2% total weight).  Blank weighs 3.5lbs.    Lesson learned: when every liter counts add a little thickness to your design to account for loss during finish sanding.

I learned that lesson last year when my cut blank came back almost 1/4" LESS all around than the Shape 3DX file I sent them. That mattered a lot when it came to paddling which is why I sold the board so quickly.

What a cool little board!

Questions:

- When every liter matters - how much would you add to the overall dimensions if you were shaping it yourself?

- How much do you weigh?

When every liter matters - how much would you add to the overall dimensions if you were shaping it yourself?

On future boards I plan on adding 2-3% total extra volume on my shape file to allow extra sanding if necessary.  So an extra 0.04" (1mm) on thickness and width and +1/2" on length.

In this case I got a high res cut that did not require a lot of sanding.  I lost 0.04" (~1mm) in thickness and 1/2" in length during the sanding process (rounding out CNC cut defects in the nose).  Now that I have ridden the board I am glad the volume got reduced a little as it is an amazingly stable board for its size.

Thanks.

How did you calculate the loss of 1.5 liters of volume? Did you measure the finished blank with calipers after and then changed the dimensions with the original Shape 3DX file?

I weighed the cnc'd blank before and after sanding to determine loss of volume.  I lost 1oz during sanding (approx 2% of total weight).  Measurements of the sanded blank confirmed the small reduction in size vs the original shape 3d file dimensions.
