Zane up close - magic
« on: October 01, 2016, 09:12:20 PM »
I was out on a longboard when the pack broke out to surf after the games today. Zane paddled up on what looked like a sub 7' hypernut and stood there sinking to his knees and floundering for a bit. (I couldn't have even stood on the thing, it was tiny. No hate here.)

We both turned to go on a wave and I looked over to my right and saw him lift out of the water, I pulled back and just watched as he skimmed away at the top of the wave on the foil. Amazing to watch up close.

I got to see him catch 3 or 4 and on one, Chuck P. Followed him with a mouth mounted GoPro. Look for that chase footage soon, it was awesome.

Thanks for the heads up.

Is this the video?

or is there more goodness to come?

I haven't been keeping up with the foil action the past month or so, so watching these vids is blowing my mind...

Yeah those are earlier rides. I haven't seen the chuck footage yet. Chuck P. chased him on a wave and I want to see that stuff.

Cool.  Me too.  Maybe the footage came out unusable, as can happen with those unique view capture attempts?  Hoping it comes out

I see, Zane isn't using any fins.

I was just thinking to myself that fins would be unnecessary on a foilboard and would only slow you down during take off so I came back and checked the video, sure enough, no fins.

I think as time goes on and guys really figure what is the least amount  of gear  necessary boards are  going  to look way different than what is being used now.The only thing the board needs to do is be able to paddle out and put you in  position for the next wave rail shape, outline and all the things that make a good surfboard are no longer needed. The board will become just something to bolt the foil to.

Yes, I was thinking that as well. There is no need for the board to be surfboard shaped at all. The curved outline is just a hindrance to speed and glide.

A board with parallel rails would seem to make more sense.

True, and certainly a boxy shape to maximise stability for a small size. Still will be tapered at tip and tail so the “corner’s” don’t catch when turning hard on foil. Starboard’s seems to make sense already.

And hard rails to help with release. The board itself doesn't need to turn at all.

I see big changes coming with the shape of the foils as well which will add to the stability and ease of use. Today's foils will likely be obsolete in a few years. I still want one though.

Nice video thanks for sharing.   the paddle/pump back out I'm seeing for the first time, seemed he was fast like really fast and hard work.

Holy Moly.  Electric bikes and Sup Foils.  In a way I would have never put together.  See the opening scene.

This would work on small days at my beach.  Low tide, eBike . . . no need for a boat.  Just grab the friend and a foil board.

Very cool Beasho!
(I wonder where that is)

I've been waiting for someone to hook an electric motor and propulsion device
to a SUP foil - that would about cover everything.

Seems you or Pono could be the first to do it.
