Cape Cod Bay Challenge 2016 underway
« on: August 27, 2016, 04:56:55 AM »
They launched shortly after 5:30. Light NW wind that has already shifted north on them but still light. New launch location, Scussett Beach right at the mouth of the canal. Very small crew, 24 paddlers, smallest since our second year. We have a whole herd of regulars that are taking this year off to do some other events. Everybody is already looking forward to the 10th anniversary.... :P. This looks like a particularly competent and well prepared group this year so I'm expecting a pretty quick crossing with the wind being minor and weather just about perfect.

See you at the beach!

Wind is setting up better today than the forecast.... looks light and diminishing as the day goes on.... should be a great crossing!

Another great day on the water and the 9th annual CCBC.  Small crew this year made the 30 mile crossing in 10 and 1/2 hrs.  Not a bad day overall  especially compared to last year, but the north wind and chop  resulted in paddling on one side for close to 7 hrs straight.  As always the after party was great fun and the cold Wachusett beers never tasted so good.

We Raised close to $60,000 for Christopher's Haven which is pretty remarkable considering the small number of paddlers this year.  Quality over quantity I guess.

This was my 6th CCBC, and every year I think is my last, but looking  forward to the 10 th anniversary next year.
Thanks to everyone at CCBC for another stellar event.

A great article by one of our most dedicated paddlers and an all around great person.  I couldn't paddle this one due to injury but I was on a support boat all day and I think Michelle captured the day perfectly in her article.  Take a read if you have a few minutes.
