Right on TL!

Been mentioned a few times before but maybe worth repeating, weigh your board and mark it right on the stringer with a Sharpie.  Weighing the board after it has gotten wet is also useful since you can monitor the weight loss; with the passive vent, moisture will continue to exit.

Needless to say, Robert and his crew at Blue Planet were a great help today and will sort things out. Thanks Robert!
No wonder folks rave about his shop

He certainly comes across as a top geeza :)

I have a JL Stun Gun and I've never even bothered to look at the vent plug.  How do you inspect for leaks?  Apologizes if this is covered in the videos linked below... :o

If you dry the vent off with a towel and leave the board in the sun for 10-15min, vent up, if there is moisture inside, it will bleed out.  If it stays dry you are good to go; don't mess with it.

Yep, bleed out after dry is the key. Bubbling doesnt matter apparently.
wonder if these vents really do save boards more often than they damage?

That's a great observation TL.  I think if you live at sea level, you don't get too much benefit form the vent.  I have a 2010 Coreban with a non-breathable vent that has never been left open, and so far zero maintenance issues due to non-breathable vent.

Jimmy's son Marlon feels the benefit far outweighs the risk. I suppose he and Robert know way more about this than i do. Still, having suffered one failure i remain leery!

Before the days of Goretex vent plugs, my wife and a few friends have all had windsurf boards delam from being in vans sitting in the sun. I went sailing once and forgot to put the old vent screw back in. So from my perspective, Goretex vents are great.
