Deep Cove
« on: August 08, 2016, 08:23:31 AM »
Late July here in New Jersey yielded some fine waves. And for once the ongoing beach fill operations actually enhanced my local by creating a "Deep Cove" that acted like a catchers mitt drawing in our south wind swells perfectly. Opening sequence is a young fella I met a few years ago who shoots surf fotos like a pro!

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

That was an excellent video. I liked it's video length, the background music, nice waves, your surfing technique, the underneath the water shots showing your quad fin setup and seeing you surf two different boards.

Thanks for sharing your video.

Nice work Mark, your best video yet!

Loved the last wave..... boat in the beginning, futuristic beach machines at the end.... very cool!

IMO, You surf the Cannibal and the V-Box differently.... I enjoy your V-Box mode. Do you have a preference, or is all dependant on conditions?

May the giant milking stool, leave you more good waves in it's wake  :)

Great video, soulful surfing, and I love the music. Such a wonderful change from the music in many surf videos. The music sure matches the flow of your surfing.

Great vid!  Man, you have a steady paddle cam there...makes mine seem so spastic!  Loved the paddle shack scene.

Thanx Subber, NW, Creek, nalu, and surf af! You guys stoked me to the max!  This day was so amazing. "Deep Cove" is now not so deep cove...the sand is already moved and the beach profile way more straight just two weeks after completion. But it's still been super fun! Lucky me this summer, I feel so good w/this weight loss. The V-Box is actually easy to stand on waiting for waves. I should start playing the lottery I feel so lucky. LIG!
Creek, as far as why I choose one board over another is alot of factors. The V is def way more work to keep moving and everything has to be a touch more precise. The Assassin is more forgiving and after around 90 mins I usually switch to it after a go on V. Wouldn't mind trying a step down model.
LOL...Giant milking stool! Everyone is always curious about that thing. "The Crab"!
TECHNICAL PAPERS
The Crab: A Unique Nearshore Surveying Vehicle
U.S. Army Coastal Engrg. Research Center, Field Research Facility, S.R. Box 271, Duck, N.C. 27949

A recent innovation for improved nearshore surveying and coastal engineering data collection is the Coastal Research Amphibious Buggy (CRAB). This 35‐ft (10.6‐m) high motorized tripod, when combined with a state‐of‐theart electronic total station, allows rapid, accurate surveying of the surf zone and nearshore waters out to depths of 30 ft (9 m). When compared to conventional methods, survey costs are reduced by an order of magnitude, and accuracy is vastly improved. Numerous other research applications have been achieved.

nalu, I really appreciate the comments re: my music.
surfaf, steady w/the cam, dude! That paddle shack felt cah-lean!

These are cell phone shots my neighbor took on 7/29, a few days after I shot "Deep Cove". I missed that sesh because of a gig I have Fri nights. Heard there were some long lefts ridden that evening.

Looks good!  The reference to the "milking stool" made me watch again and I realized I had seen that rig  last year in Ocean City  .   The contractor here  in South Carolina managed to get away with a jeep-GPS rig.   How did the project affect the wave shapes on LBI?

Glad to see no  neoprene required.  I'll be in Surf City later this month and would appreciate any local knowledge.   Because I won't have a car, I figure to rent a  surfboard and work on those skills.  Any restrictions on  surfing hours, beaches, etc?  My custom is to be off the beach  before and after  the lifeguards and crowds.  Thanks for any  help.

Beautiful!   Thanks for sharing.   Great paddle shots!  The hardest part of being a San Francisco surfer is we get no summer and it's usually blown to shreds.  Glad to see the summer time stoke!
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.
